View Full Version : Polak and his Marking

How good is this kid, I mean he came from the big 4 out of the most talented draft seen thus far.
Considered the one with the most development ahead of him hasnt he risen. Up their with Judd now after half a season, his pack marking has already put him in the top 10 mark takers of the comp.
Frankly I cant think of many other players that pack mark like he does, even Riewoldt doesnt have that kind of ability.
But what impresses me most about him is his courage, the way he stood in front of Neitz and didnt flinch and pulled down the mark was inspiring stuff.
They talk of Pavlich being a future captain of the club and sure he would make a fine captain. But anyone that stands in front of a raging bull and doesnt flinch and pulls down a strong mark is for my mind the future captain.
Their is no more inspiring act than that.
Hail Polak the future captain of the club

I dont think Polak will ever be captain of our club. But one thing I will beleive he will our future FF/CHF rotating with J Lo

I know it may be a big call, but i think that he will eventually surpass both Pavlich & Reiwoldt.

He's definitely had a better season thus far than Pav and I think that he can improve out of sight.

He will be our best player.

We will have an awesome goal to goal line in a few years, McPharlin, Pavlich, Polak and Longmuir.

You think Pavlich will play at CHB in the future?

If Polak puts on some more muscle over the pre-season, I'd play him at CHF next year. Being so raw, It'd be risky playing him there now as the scrutiny and physical pressure he would cop may be too much for his body to handle. He's the best mark I've seen for anyone under 18 and he certainly has the ability to surpass Pavlich and Riewoldt.

In his junior days he was compared with Stephen Kernahan.

I don't know to be honest. Longmuir, McPharlin, Polak and Pavlich could all play forward. I would want Pavlich playing at CHF, but would there be enough room to also fit both Polak and Longmuir in the forward line?

I don't know either. I'd rather Pavlich play CHF than in the midfield for now but once he learns to use his superior size better in the midfield, he will be a handy utility.

I don't want Pavlich becoming a 'handy utility' though. I want him dominating games like we know he can.

Do we have room for Polak, Pavlich, McPharlin, Longmuir, Haddrill and Croad in our side?

Methinks on of them will be traded at the end of the year.

Hmm. Well we won't be trading Polak, McPharlin, Pavlich, Longmuir or Haddrill. If we trade anyone, it's Croad. Depends if he wants to go and what he can get for him though. I'd like him to stay in the team and play off half back but if we were to trade one of them, it would have to be him unfortunately.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't trade McPharlin, Polak, Longmuir, Pavlich or Haddrill.

At this stage, I'd trade Croad if we could get a top ten pick for him.

Pavlich should model his game in the midfield around Mark Riccuito. Riccuito creates the loose ball in the midfield by splitting packs with his toughness and bullocking work. Pavlich has the ability to do this as well as pressing forward as a dangerous forward option.

Otherwise, I do agree he is wasted in the midfield when he could be played at CHF and use his mobility to lead up the wings and run his opponent ragged in similar fashion to Tredrea, Tarrant and Richardson. CHF is the position where he will able to dominate games.

Or perhaps he should be played on a HFF and be given a Hird-like liscence to do as he pleases?

You guys are finally willing to play Pavlich as a KPP?

I'm impressed.

Must be the eagles supporters saying how hes just a worse version of Embley ;)

Yeah, that's what we need from Pav. Start him on HF and let him run his defender around, rather than playing with midfielders that can keep up with him.

The main reason for Connolly playing Pavlich as a midfielder was because he has the best foot skills in the side and it would benefit the forwards having Pavlich deliver the ball to them.

I was willing to give it a go at first but now I think it's time we see how he goes across half forward. At the moment he is an oversized midfielder with slightly above average pace compared to most other midfielders but below average agility who doesn't know how to use his superior size to his advantage. At CHF he would be far too quick, agile and mobile for his opponent.

Hey, it was only one Eagles supporter who said that. :o  ;)

Great to be in this position though, isnt it??

He's already ahead of him in the speech department.

At the end of the year it might be one of Thornton/Haddrill/Croad for Coglan/Black/Kerr.

HA and I am the one called optimistic.
In all honestly Black and Kerr are worth more than the other 3.
Croad for Coughlan is a possibility though.
That said I wouldnt trade robbie, I think we need him down back with Pavlich/McPhalin.
Thornton as far as I am concerned should have been delisted last year.
Frankly I will take almost anyone for him.

Sabre, did you see the game on the weekend?

Thornton was impressive.

I'd prefer he stay on the list if he isn't traded. He is good backup.

Surely not every player is going to make an impact in his first season. Give him some time.

Richmond don't really need Croad and I'd say we'd need to throw a second round pick in that deal as well if we are to snare Coughlan. If we can get another club to be involved in a three way trade who might be interested in Croad such as Melbourne, the Bulldogs or Geelong it becomes a real possibility.

I don't think Richmond would let Coughlan go... under any circumstances. I sure as hell wouldn't if I were them.

Obviously they'd want him to stay, but there is the slight chance that he may want to return home.

Robbie Haddrill & Woodsie know him well from there Perth colts days. They may be in his ear when Richmond come to town in a cuppla months

richmond are very pleased with coghlan, they consider him a part of their future and a potential star. i seriously doubt they will let him go, and if they do, thornton (at best a fringe utility), hadrill (an young unproven defender with good potential) or croad (an underperforming forward) wont be nearly good enough.

i thought black was happy up there at brisbane?
