Essendon 5 wins, 3 losses, one draw and a bye.
Just sayin'........
Zaka = Hird?
Melky = Mercuri?

Even if the Bombers of 2010 are similar to the class of 1993, the problem is the Cats of 2010 is far better than any team in 1993.
Mind you I do not subscribe to the thought that we are as good as 1993 this year.
Our young players look very promising, but we lack the quality of older players that we had then. Sure we have a few, but not the depth of quality older players.
I would be happy if Zaharakis turns out half the player Hird was. :thumbsu:

Anyone remember what happened to the Eagles in '93 - having won 92 and 94 I doubt that they weren't any good. I was at the final when we beat them, but a lot younger so I don't really remember the context of the season.
Good call about there being no standout teams in 1993 but history shows that it should have been the Eagles.

Also after round 5 in 1993 we were 1W 1D 3L, compared to 1 & 4 this year...
But you're dreaming.

If I remember correctly it was pretty much a Premiership hangover coupled with an interrupted season for a bunch of players.
However should have been doesn't mean much, they weren't great.
They finished 6th on the ladder however with 12 wins from a 20 round H&A season, only one game and a draw behind us who finshed first from only 13 wins and a draw. :eek:
This year at LEAST one team will have a much better match ratio in the H&A than that.
Although realistically we could get 13 wins again and play Carlton first week of the finals as we did in 1993! :D

Yes it would be fantastic! A massive crowd if that happened with both supporters laying claim to finals bragging rights for different reasons over different seasons.
Would just hope that we wouldn't have the same amount of key injuries as we had going into that first final in 1993. We did well to get within 2 points considering, then showed how we could play when we started getting players back the weeks following.
A long way to go though, I'm just enjoying 5 weeks of consistently decent football in a row and 3 wins in a row.
Getting 13 for the season is a long way off...

I'd rather not play Carlton in the finals. H&A, sure, we've got the edge.. but I've still got nightmares about '99....

Just think about 2000. Much healthier.

If we are going to be a decent team it shouldn't matter who we play.
I know what you mean though. That game still haunts me, along with the 1996 Prelim.

I'd much rather play Carlton in the finals so that we can move on from '99 by creating much more positive memories :thumbsu:

Going to be tough to make the 8. We'd have to beat the teams below us in Melbourne (North, Melb, WC and Bris), and snag at least two of the other games, Geel, Coll, Carl, WB, Haw, StK, Sydney (A) and Adelaide (A). That would give us 11, which may not be enough. Certainly not enough for top 4.
We've already dropped games we might have been expected to win, so it's fair to assume we may drop another. If that happens, it's going to be very tough.

Very optimistic!
On a side note I remember being terrified Geelong would make the finals in '93. That might have been their best chance...from memory they were on an awesome run of form but just fell short.
