Jason broke a bone in his foot playing for Bendigo in Rd 6. He has undergone surgery and will miss the remainder of the year.

Ouch. Such bad luck with injuries, has Laycock.
Time to bring in some muscle!

Unfortunetly for the big man that could be it for him. Which is a shame as he was playing some really good footy before the injury.
I would say Quinn and Muscles will both be promoted, and add even more pressure to the senior side.
On Laycoc... sigh... I don't think the side could hold onto him now, which is a shame, bad luck to him, never really had a consistent chance due to injuries.

Unfortunately spells the end for Jason at the Bombers IMO. He was borderline being delisted at the end of this year anyway and I think this injury will seal his fate.

Silverlock would also have to be a chance to be elevated. Knights seems to really rate him.

That's so unfortunate. Having not played football since 08, I'll be extremely surprised if he represents Essendon again.

Unless Bock and Marigliani fuse into a 205cm tank, I think he'll be kept around as a back up ruckman.
Keep the faith!

You've really gotta feel for the big man. :(
I hated watching Laycock couple of years ago but he clearly wasn't fit and has struggled to get to AFL fitness since. I think it is the end of his career at least at Essendon which is a shame because he does have potential. But with Hille and Ryder we only need a back up ruckman and Bellchambers is the man. It's good to see a rookie get an opportunity though
If wade skipper and Cameron cloke can still be on AFL lists, then if not on Essendons list he will be picked up by someone.

Agree.
Providing that his current foot injury is not related to his last foot injury.

I think since Laycock has been giving surgery it indicates that Essendon haven't given up on him yet.

HAHA.
Well they aren't just going to leave him with a broken foot for the rest of his life.
"I'm sorry Jason, we've lost hope in you. Fix your own goddamn foot!"

totally agree, this in a strange way probably gives him more chance to stay at essendon as any trade value he may have had is gone.
i also dont like the idea of having
2x 20yo ruckman
1x 22yo
1x 29yo (tomorrow)
so keeping laycock as a 25yo really isnt going to cost us anything, but would leave a big hole if he left!

That was an obvious typo,
Dont see the point of keeping this guy.
Just had a look at Laycocks averages since he got to the club and they're not great. Sure - hes a 200cm ruckman and had 1 good Anzac day game ages ago but since 2004 his stats read:
Averages per game: Hit outs - 9, Disposals - 8, Marks - 3, Tackles - 1.
He is constantly breaking down with injury after injury and I just dont think its worth keeping a player with those sorts of averages on our list. We are much better off cutting our loss's and investing in a young kid and our ruck stocks are pretty healthy at the moment with Hille, Ryder, & Bellchambers plus Bock on the rookie list.
His contract is up get rid of him I say. Harsh - but AFL footy is harsh and hes certainly had his chances.
I expect we'll keep him rolling on 1 year contracts unless he has any trade value.
