View Full Version : Australia's "rotation" policy - Has it passed its used-by date?

So, For the third one-dayer Australia's rotation policy saw them leave out the highest run scorer on Tour, Matthew Hayden even though Mark Waugh [highest scorer in the last ODI] was already out through injury. With several other batsmen in very suspect form retained or promoted.....
....The result.... Australia's batsmen collapse to be all out 130-odd runs behind India.
Was it a good idea to continue with the rotation policy?
Or now that Australia has been shown to be 'beatable', is it time to play the best team every time?
Your thoughts?
No I dont think it has, Australia is just in a trough at the moment concerning form. Playing in India must be very hard with the different wickets, rowdy opposition crowds, food, weather etc. It is a totally different environment that a lot of countries visiting there have problems adapting too. There is nothing wrong with the Australian team I feel, they just need to come back home and rest for awhile so that they can bounce back and thrash the poms (take note Dipper http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).

I would of rested Hayden in the 4th ODI in India if Australia had won Game 3. Now it's a very tough ask for the Aussies to win the next 2 games in a row. I can't see that happening.
No problems rotating players against the weaker sides, but it's a bit silly when a series is up for grabs, especially if the player being rested is THE form player, and the blokes filling in (Martyn, Lehmann, Symonds) have hardly had a hit.
the Auzzies could not give a crap about this One Day series. All they want to do is get home, and get home quick.
The last thing they would've wanted to do after the test series, was back up for the one dayers.
I don't think the Auzzies are really worried about the series result. If they lost 5-0, it would be forgotten within a month.
If i was over there, i would rather be 12th man for every match, than have to go out into the 40 degree heat and get smashed all over the park.

Yep, its definately time to play the best side in every game. No more rotating unless we are playing a really week side that we will trounce no matter who's playing.

Note taken Vis & I would like you to take note that if I should happen to bowl any beamers at you in the upcoming BFCC match that they are purely accidental & due to my hands being sweaty as I will be unused to the hot conditions & not due to the fact that I am a psychotic Pom who holds a grudge & takes offence at any slight real or imagined.
Bring it on Dipper mate!!! http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

TELEGRAM FOR MR.DIPPER, HIGHBURY, LONDON
We can have six blokes in the quadrant between square leg and fine leg. Bowl at off stump, only about a metre higher http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/smile.gif Bang 'em in nice and short, and we can nut a few blokes. Good show, old chap!

Yes, we have to play to WIN.

Are we talking leg theory here skipper? I sure hope so but as wicket keeper I would advise you to stand nearer to the boundary than the stumps as I get a fair bit of carry when I'm pumped up.
