To all Dons Fans,

The game is constantly under scrutiny for improvement.
Gone are most traditions of the past. These traditions have been abandoned to improve the game as a whole.

The one area where there has been limited improvement are the club's jumper.

As a spectacle, the game is great to watch. Except, on occasions where jumpers are similar.
Whether it be a simple case of dons and tigers wearing black – this is a clash and it takes away from the game to some fans.

The game should be for ALL football fans.

To be the best spectacle for ALL fans and hopeful converts to footy, the jumper issue needs to addressed STRONGLY by the AFL.
Ensuring that ALL clubs have a Home guernsey for Home games and an Away guernsey for Away games (and even an alternative jumper for other clashes).

I am a proud, passionate fan, supporter, member of the Dons.
The club will always be the Essendon Football Club and wear Red and Black for home games.
But, for away games I would cheer my heart out for the all Red jumper or the White jumper with Dons logo on the front.

I urge all dons to embrace the change and the minority to remain quiet.

Part of the essence of any successful culture is both the continuance of its core self but also adapting these to contemporary times. This obstinacy in staying true to a single jumper is, in my opinion, outdated. The club remains Essendon and yes we are identifiable as a red sash on a black jumper but that isn't all. Red and black can be reinvented, remixed, re-told.

The key is to remain true to what that stands for yet keeping it up to date.

There's a story of a company that made the best buggy whips in the world. They remained true to this and held their status as the best producer of this iconic product. Then the car came...

I've always thought we should go with a strip like the Man City one. None if this wide sash crap.

We clash with pretty much no1 the only thing I wud consider is a red guernsey with black stripe for a clash jumper instead of the wider sash crap.

Bad troll is bad

If we're forced to change, I'd like to see this:

We could mail a sample jumper to the bowls club as well.

I am very against changing the jumper.

Some interesting designs are here though. Credit to LeeArm.

I can't see why we just can't have the smaller sash like we had in the old heritage jumper.

So Essendon should change jumpers because of technology?

What a ****ing stupid analogy

Hahahahaha

So long as Essendon players represent the club within the spirit of the Essendon Football Club, couldn't care less about having an alternative away strip.

What I don't understand about our approach to this debate is that we are happy to humiliate our own jumper with that superwide sash and red shorts monstrosity rather than just go all white with red and black trimmings.

You could do all white with two thinner red and black sashes or just continue with red.

The point is that we cant really be serious about preserving the tradition of our strip when we run out with a bastardised, distasteful version of the origional.

Why should we have to change our jumper because the AFL bring in a team with a predominately red jumper?

And why to we have to change because the Demons keep making their blue darker and darker?

Buddy, there's an element these days on the internet called, the "literal net". http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=literal%20net

The analogy is about sticking to something that sounds like its the right thing but you don't move with the times.

Mate, it's a jumper. There is no moving with the times. It's not like we'll fall behind in the awesome jumper with flashing lights race. A jumper will always be a jumper.

Are we going to be able to wear our "home" strip against the Gold Coast? Surely the majority black wouldn't clash?

I've spent the majority of my "playing" career in this strip

http://oldxavs.com.au/sites/default/files/u4/Ossie.jpg

and played against this

http://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/gscot/08maygs/images/27c.jpg

many times. Very comparable to Essendon and GC17 IMO. I've never had a problem with clashing. One jumper is red, one is black.

Should GC17 wear a clash strip against the Dogs? We have similar amounts of red to them.

The red shorts were hideous and we've thankfully put that behind us, but I don't mind the fat sash with black shorts. I actually quite like it.
