View Full Version : Leg Speed
I know all of us have a ruckmen & a KPP at the top of our wish list but if there is something else that we lack at the moment then that would have to be leg speed with which to carry the ball,
McLeod, Goodwin, Johnc*ck, Edwards & Gallagher seem to be our quickest runners & while Doughty, Massie, Begley & others are promising I would really like to see them develop more pace especially in the first 5 mtrs,
I think we could do with some quicker forwards and perhaps quicker defenders apart from Ben Hart. I don't think speed is a problem with our midfield. That's just my thougts.

The defense was where i was looking at Mong but so many players these days play in a variety of positions & if say Massie & Begley could just pick up a yard or 2 of pace that would make both of them so much more attacking from half back, maybe i'm wishing for to much but no harm in day-dreaming,

I agree with that Noddy. I actually made similar comment a couple of weeks ago in a topic 'Lack run from defense'. No-one seemed to agree with me. We don't have the run from defense that other good teams do or we have had under past coaches. People pointed out all the posessions that players such as Massie and Begley got but that was missing the point. Most of defensive attack happens without the ball, offering support for team mates and running forward into the midfield. That doesn't happen. A defender can get 40 possessions but it doesn't make them attacking. Our defense is very stop start and very 'defensive' which is fine and is the main job of defenders but the best defenses are very attacking. I believe it has to do with our personnel at the moment but also probably the style that our coaches have implemented.
