View Full Version : Competitions Pick the Result for the Geelong Cats Game

Rules:

1. You predict a winner and a margin.

Example: Essendon by 13 points.

2. You predict the type of game it will be, very generally.

Example: "Will be close for most of the game, but Essendon will get on top and make it safe in the last quarter", or "The Dons will get off to a flyer and keep it steady at a safe margin for the rest of the game without it being a thrashing".

3. I will keep a table of everyone's predictions and the results, and will score each round as follows:

+1 point for picking the winner.
-1 point for picking the loser.
+2 point for getting within 15 points of the margin (including picking the wrong winner)
+1 points for getting the closest to the margin.
+1 point for getting the margin exactly.
+3 points if you describe the game most accurately.

You don't have to predict the type of game it will be if you don't want to, it's just for bonus points.

All tips must be in before the game starts, obviously.

"Game is much like last week with not a great margin between the teams at any stage. Geelong just get up by we play a great game".

Geelong by 45.

Essendon are up and about early but Hille missing from the middle catches up with them and the Cats start to run away towards the end of the third and they do so for the rest of the game.

Bombers by 14 points.

Essendon surprise everyone by getting out to a 38 point lead half way through the third quarter before the Geelong train gathers some momentum. Not enough though to pull them over the line. Fletcher BOG again and Essendon small forwards cause Geelong all sorts of trouble.

Simple. Even with injuries, they are way better than us.

Essendon's tackling pressure will be very strong throughout, but turnovers will kill us, and Geelong's class will ultimately shine through.

Essendon by 49!

Geelong will be shell shocked early and Essendon will finally run away with a game. Jetta and Davey to run wild kicking 5 goals between them.

Essendon by 7

Essendon to come out all guns a blazing early with a healthy lead. But Geelong will come back and hold a lead before dieing down and making too many mistakes. Essendon to come home strong.

It will be a good game like last week but this time the bombers will kick away learning from last week
Very sore players after the games

Geelong by 24. Geelong will start the game kicking a quick few and go to an early lead. They will hold a similar lead for the most of the match, though we will get within a couple of goals midway through the last quarter before they kick the last couple of goals of the game.

'Bombers will be up most of the game only for Geelong to come back and get in front in the last 5 minutes. (Insert Name) will kick a goal to win it for us.'

"A very close game all the way until three quarter time, when a mistake from Essendon backman Courtenay Dempsey costs the Bombers the lead. Geelong pull ahead in the fourth until a spectacular run-down tackle by Mark McVeigh gives Essendon the momentum and ties it up as he converts from 50 out on a tight angle. Gary Ablett fires a kick to Paul Chapman who marks on the lead 35m out on a tight angle, but can't convert. Geelong in front by 1. Dustin Fletcher belts a kick out of the back fifty, and the ball falls to the youngster Jake Melksham, who has a bit of a run. Clock winding down, he pumps the ball inside fifty. Harry Taylor flies, but steaming in fresh off the bench, from the side of the pack is..."

"GUMBLETON!!!!"

"The siren has gone. The whole stadium is on the edge of their seats. Scott Gumbleton begins his run towards goal. The kick is magnificent. The crowd goes absolutely crazy. Bombers by 5."

Close encounter all day, high intensity with a lot of contested footy, Essendon start to edge away as the game progresses, but Geelong comes home strong and hits the front. Essendon kicks the last to get up by 4 pts.

Geelong by 38.

Bombers to keep it competitive and pile on pressure for at least the first half and staying close to the Cats, but Geelong to prove too classy and run away in the second half as the Bombers tire out.

Exciting, skillfull game of football with both sides kicking decent scores. Once Essendon edge a decent lead they will hold on to it for the rest of the game, though the Cats won't stop trying.

I am changing mine to Essendon by 56, to make our percentage exactly 100% (not really)
