Courtney Walsh has now retired.

I remember when he first started. He was a raw young kid with excellent teachers in his team like Holding (on his last legs), Marshall and Garner. He was never really express paced but more akin to McGrath in his ability to bowl consistent line and length with just enough movement to trouble the best batsmen.

He matured quickly under the captaincy of Viv Richards and then partnered by Curtley Ambrose became the most feared partnership in world cricket at the time.

He was a likeable character without the seemingly mandatory mean temper of a fast bowler and Australian cricket fans warmed to him quickly.

He proved in this his farewell series against South Africa that he could still continue if he had the desire and his body would allow him. He has been a great bowler and his position at the top of the wicket taking list can not be begrudged by anyone.

Farewell Courtney.

Sad year for West Indian cricket with the loss of Curtley Ambrose and now Courtney Walsh ... both will be missed.

Its great to see such a player respected by all cricket fans all over the world

one thing that will always stick in my mind about him is when he played in a practice game against victoria at the mcg last year, there was a very small crowd, 5000 at the most, and every person there was on there feet applauding him
twas great!

I hate to ruin the emotional farewells but there is talk that he'll stay on for the Tests against Zimbabwe-who knows?
