To the 3 gentlemen in front of me, just because the opposition get tackled doesn't mean it's holding the ball. Why can't you support the team without declaring certain players shit just because they are having one poor game and blaming the umpires for allp our problems.

Sometimes we just have to go home and say "They were too good" and move on.

Agreed. I hate sitting anywhere near our members particuarly on level 3 on nights like this. 3/4's of them are an embarrasment and have next to no understanding of the rules.

Well I was sitting premium level 3 for the first time on the wing which I assume is where the members are and half of them just would not shut up.

Im surrounded by memebers every week who complain and blame poor perfmances on either umpires of Knight's gameplan.. its frustrating but you learn to ignore it, its one reason why i bring my ipod to games so i can listen to the radio instead lol

Anyone hear that smart arse #### Wallsy say Essendon are well known for leaving matches early?

He couldn't help but stick some barbs in all night...

He jests, surely?

Every team has its fairweather supporters leaving before the end of the game (weak, in my opinion), but I've noticed Carlton are far worse than all others.

The last 6 games, I've noticed they all leave likes rats on a sinking ship, often at 3-quarter time or halfway through the last.

It's actually quite a sight.

Carlton supporters leave earlier and quicker than any other team...

I always stay till the end. Even though it's hard at times like tonight and Anzac Day.

All teams have these sorts of supporters, so not sure what Walls was on about there.

Interestingly though, he's up Lloydy's rear something chronic with the personal questions.

"Who did you follow as a young boy growing up, Matthew?" please grab me a bucket!

Yep, I'd never leave early.

Sat through tonight's thumping, and clapped each time I thought they deserved it. Even if I was already completely disheartened. :(

Essendons supporters these days make me sick and ashamed. Times like this are when the team needs the most support and all most supporters can do is sick back a rag on the coach, and the players.
Oh well, can't be bothered having a rant about so I will just leave it at that.

That's why I go to the locker room. Just enhances my drinking fetish.

Didn't you hear Lloyd? "It was pretty empty here last night" :p

It's truly embarrassing. Stanton kicks a goal and all I hear is "about time....sheepdog"

Then I say, "Mark Thompson is the best coach in the league right? Look who he put the best tagger in the league on"

"mumble mumble Slattery Dyson Myers mumble"

The holding the ball cries of the fans are the most annoying part of going to the footy.

What's worse is that the way the holding the ball decisions are made these days the cries of "bbbaaaallllll" now actually seem logical. Which they never were and should never be.

Carlton supporters are the KINGS of leaving early.

Anyone see the Carl v Haw game, there entire members area on the wing and next to there CS on level 1 emptied out with 20 mins to go. LOL

I don't usually leave early but I did last night. I know it's important to stick by your team but in the end I watch football as a form of entertainment and watching my team get thrashed is not very entertaining.

I agree it is not entertaining but in the last quarter I tried to sit back and enjoy watching Geelong for they are a great side and to watch the way they move the ball and run to back one another up was great to see.

I think they will be very hard to beat come September.

First time I ever left early was the first Carlton game in '06, that shit was just unbearable.

Stayed last night, however disheartening it was.

I thought Stanton had a very good game. Ran all night and kicked 2 goals while being tagged by the best in the game. I also T-Bell was quite good.

Try going to a game at the GABBA. They have no idea of the rules up there. I used to regularly hear calls of, "50 yards," instead of 50 metres.

I gave Slattery a large whack last night. He shouldn't be in the team, which obviously isn't his fault. I though it was deserving last night though, he did very little the whole game, offered nothing.

For what it's worth I stayed 'til the end as well. I sit behind the goals, at the Lockett end, level 3, aisle 2.

Gee it's hard to stick to the end when that happens, but I try to as often as possible. I also try to stick by the players whenever possible I just find it hard when I don't agree with the players that are in the side to begin with.

Agree. Stanton tries EVERY SINGLE GAME. I'd much rather someone trying their best for a good result than someone 'more talented', but is disinterested.

Belltower's got hands to the ball a lot just needs to work on positioning it to advantage of his team mates. Shame he won't get much of an opportunity to do so...

Yep, when it was all over I just decided to admire the skills of the Geelong boys. I don't think we'll see another Victorian be this dominant for a long long time.

No problem i will. Aisle 39 row A. There were 2 middle aged guys behind who smuggled in some booze and commenced to get shit-faced before 1/2 time. For the entire last qtr one slurred and stuttered about the game plan and how shit the zone is yet neither failed to take notice that we went man on man in the second half. They screamed abuse at Stanton from the first minute of the game. The woman next to them was even worse, older in age and never once had anything positive to say. Some of her finest "Cmon Watson you havent had touch all night" (28 possesions) Ablett gets tackled and handballs cleanly "thats holding the ball you're paying them against us" any player that ran without disposing straight away had run too far and last but not least barely 5 minutes into the third qtr she could see that our guys have given up already and arent even trying. Last time i ever sit on level 3. Im not blaming every supporter its only a few that give the rest a bad name but I cant understand the incentive for people to buy a reserved seat for the season when you can unforunately be seated next to the same flogs every home game.

Thats disappointing stuff. I sit on level three and okay out of frustration we might get upset when someone turns the ball over but as a group we only want the team to win and I'm happy to say we are never has bad as the area you were sitting sounds.

We have a lot of knob supporters, especially in the 15-20 and 30-40 age brackets for some reason. Every team has them we just have a lot more than others, it seems.

Unfortunately with such a history of success at Essendon some supporters just expect to rock up to every game and win each and every week. Some are just totally unrealistic about where we are currently at as a team and as a club.

There are no classes for uneducated supporters unfortunately. Just got to put up with it. If they pay their membership every year or their entry fee, they have a right to voice their, at times, ridiculous and unfounded opinions on the team and individual players... no matter how wrong we know they are.

Let me guess, you are in the 20-30 year age bracket?
It's been a pretty lean 5 years and people are getting frustrated with good reason. You would think that 5 years is enough to get a team back into the top 4... or even firmly entrenched in the 8.

I am in the 20-30 age bracket, yes, and we have our fair share of nuffies as well... but on a whole the 15-20 and 30-40 age brackets, in my experiences, tend to be the worst.

Fair enough. I am interstate and can't get to many games so I don't see a whole lot of this behaviour.

Just saying that people seem to have some pretty good reasons to be upset/dissapointed right now.

The problem is we've been ****ed over by the 1998-2002/3 period of drafting. It'll take a while to get things sorted, when Ryder/Dempsey etc. are 25-26.

Then we will be a premiership force.

Anything earlier will be on sheer talent alone.

Yeh think you are on the money. It seems to be the older players that make the core of the team and the young fresh talant is just the cherry on top. We are missing the cake.
