Saw this doco last night at ACMI and loved it.

IMDB RATING: 8.5

The story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results. Billed as 'the world's first street art disaster movie' the film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work.

If your not familiar with the street art of Banksy then you are missing out, this guy is a genius. To put it simply Banksy started out as your run of the mill graffiti artist in London in the late 80's. Years later he is now the most famous (ANOMINOUS) street artist in the world with some of his works selling for hundreds of thousands.

He travels the world spraying his stencils up in the busy cities and obscure locations in attempt to spread his views on the world. A lot of his art has to do with current world issues and war.

To this day no one knows who Banksy is yet everyone that knows anything about art has heard of him. Thats what makes this documentary facinating, as we watch a mad frenchman with a camera track him down for no purpose but to film.

Heres some of his art.

Pretty funny.

However, I've got no doubt he's taking the p!$$ something chronic with this "doco".

Funniest bit was all the suckers forking out motzas on worthless prints at the pop-up gallery in the cinema foyer.

High-priced butts of Banksy's elaborate joke...

Yeah, I loved it.

Highlight to reveal spoiler - I heard it was set up and that Mr Brainwash is an actor. Did anyone else hear the same?

Yeah I have heard that. There is nothing definitive though, many people think it is all just a big hoax from Banksy himself.

Watched this last night and really liked it. Whether its a set up or not probably doesnt matter but i think its more to say that Banksy doesnt really consider himself as an artist yet collectors have started paying ridiculous amounts for his work, which anybody with a photocopy machine and some paid staff could replicate and people would pay $100,000 for.
