View Full Version : Paddy to go back to KPD?

Well back in the Sheedy era when Paddy first started playing, he was mostly used in CHB and FB along with Keps. Now since Pears and Fletcher are both gone for at least 2 weeks should Paddy go back to KPD and bring in Hille to ruck with Bellchambers.
With the Hurley option to go back, I really don't think we should be making him change his game by alot. If Jonathan Brown was played down back in the start of his career he would of never been a good CHF/FF. I think we should groom Hurley as a KPF and let Ryder go down back.
Thoughts?

No.
I'd rather Hurley go back, Hille and Belly ruck and Ryder play FF tbh.
When Ryder played back you could see he hated it.

Definitely not.
Hurley(short and strong) and Hooker (tall and fast) is a far more balanced combination anyway

Ryder is killing it in the ruck.

Nah, would much rather move Hurley back than Ryder.

Ryder is rapidly becoming one of the best rucks in the league. No need to mess with that when our season is looking at another disappointing 8th-12th finish. You could argue that we shouldn't mess with Hurley up forward, but he has shown much more promise down back than he has up forward to date.
With two KPD's out, and having so many options to pick from, we should feel blessed anyway.

In the next two rounds we play Adelaide and Melbourne. Neither team has two big power forwards that need covering. In fact Tippett is the only forward from either team that I can think of which might pose a problem height/size wise.
I think we might be able to get away with bringing in one of Daniher/Slattery to cover that second key defensive post and make sure our forward line remains potent with Hurley and Gumbleton switching between CHF/FF and one of our ruckmen floating in as that third key tall.
Lucas and Lloyd have both said a lot of their success was from playing constantly together and understanding each other's strengths and weaknesses. We really need this sort of understanding to develop between Gumbleton and Hurley. Given we are largely out of the race for finals, perhaps a slightly weaker backline is a worthy sacrifice for a more potent forward line in the future.

I wouldn't say "promise" - consistency is the world your looking for. Two of Hurley's best games have come as a forward.
Noooo..
Tyson Slattery is almost a certainty to play now, you'd think. Dempsey will be recalled, and Hurley will be sent back.
**** I hate the MRP.

Ryder should absolutely not relinquish the first ruck position. He is generally the catalyst for our team and what gives our midfield an edge, and god forbid, we need that edge.

Yeah ruck is definitely his best position. Especially now that he's roving his own taps :thumbsu:

Hope you ment back as in FB and not back to Bendigo  :P
lol.
If Hurley was demoted after we lost both Pears and Fletcher, I'd stop going to our games.
Well, no I'd still go, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

Can't move Patty, he was close to BOG last week in the ruck, and he plays better when he is constantly in the play, has something to do and has no opportunity to go missing.
Send Hurley down back. His best games have been forward with the 4 goal hauls vs Hawks and Cats. But I would argue that he didn't really dominate those games. Great signs sure, but he has also gone missing for long periods in other games, eg. Swans and Hawks 2nd time round. There is nothing wrong with that, he is of course a 2nd year player (I think people forget that, I do), but I think send him back where the ball is coming his way often whether he likes it or not.

Ryder's best position in Ruck.
He is not a defender, full stop. I'm a big advocator for playing players in their best position, not trying to mould then depending on the position that needs to be filled that week

Paddy is the 1st ruck these days so he wont be going back to defence. More likely to be Hurley i'd say. Other than Tippett which tall forwards to Adelaide have? They may go Hooker on Tippett and keep a medium sized backline to srat with though. Throw Hurls down there if we get in trouble.

Walker is another tall for Adelaide, around the 6'3, 6'4 mark. I think we need 2 key backs against Adelaide.
might be a dumb question but what does kpd stand for?

Yeah fair enough, i'd forgotten about him. We will definitely need another tall defender then so looks like Hurls goes to the backline.
Key position defender/defence.
thanks

Prismall didn't play VFL when he got dropped?

Dempsey has defensive issues that need to be addressed - Needs a few games at Bendigo to work on these issues.

i reckon dempsey will be back this week.
paddy needs to stay in the ruck. after a poor start to the season, he's probably been one of the most consistent rucks in the league.
any chance of neagle or williams back this week?
Our forward line is so much strong with Paddy in it. I love seeing him up there!
Definitely can't waste him in defense!
He is too good or the ruck. I'd play Bellchambers and Hille in the ruck and Ryder either down back or up forward with Hurley down back. I'd probably prefer Hurley down back and ryder up forward at this point.
