Cameron Mooney has been rubbed out for 2 weeks for striking by the AFL tribunal tonight. Interestingly, Fremantle's Graham Polak forgot the players code at the tribunal and dobbed Cameron Mooney in. After seeing the footage on Fox Footy tonight, Cameron was definately not happy!!
I guess this opens the door for Steve Johnson to return to the side for the Essendon game.

And seeing that Steve Johnson played very well against North Ballarat at the weekend, he fully deserves a shot against the Bombers.
I mentioned this on the AFL board earlier this evening, and I think the fortnight's break (not taking into account this week's bye, of course) should do Cam Mooney a world of good, no doubt about it.
He's struggled to find any consistency in his form this season, and could use the enforced hiatus to sort things through mentally.

I tend to agree with you, the enforced 3 week break, (2 weeks plus the bye) will enable Cameron Mooney to get himself right physically and mentally, ready for the last part of the season.
As for Graham Polak, he wouldn't be looking forward to the next time he has to play against Geelong because what he did tonight in the tribunal, players don't forget that sort of thing.

Mooney's got some physical gifts, no doubt about that-- but perhaps his battle to find a consistent form this season could be a mental struggle.
This hiatus will test that theory, and I hope I'm right about this.

That's right-- Mooney won't forget it, and neither will his teammates.
For Polak's sake, he's probably thankful that he'll have close to a year to prepare himself for the retribution...

And just to finish off on the tribunal news from the game, Fremantle's Matthew Carr got 2 weeks for belting Cameron Ling from behind in the 2nd quarter... fully deserved in my opinion, it was pretty wreckless.
Finally a decision about Mooneys place in the side has been taken out of the selectors hands.
Maybe now either McCarthy will get a full game, or Johnson/Playfair will get a couple of weeks to show their worth.
This may well be the begininng of the end of Gumby at the Cats.

You would think that once Mark Blake and Nathan Ablett establish themselves at our club, there'll be no room for the likes of Cameron Mooney.

That's no good. Mooney has been in fine form the last couple of weeks.

That is all well and good, but it is hard for someone else to put up their hand when they are either not being given enough game time, or not being selected at all and allowing Gumby to retain his place based on overall jack all performances.

You must be mistaking him with the goal post.
Give Gardiner a game.

Who's to say they will? We must be very careful making statements like that.
We must remember that Moons' lack of form stems from a lack of a forward setup, which is organised by a man who never played as a forward at the top level and has shown in the last few years that he has no idea on how to structure a forward line.

Gumby could be playing in the best forward structure in the league and would still struggle.
The fact is that he's out of form.
Obviously the structure isn't helping, but it didn't hinder him overly last season.

people keep talking about nathan ablett like he's some sort of saviour. And the fact remains that there is no guarantee that he wants to play football, let alone nominate for the draft. i think this pressure may be what he doesn't want in a life of footy.
back on topic though, who besides Johnson could replace Mooney as a 'tall' forward. Has lonergan/playfair shown enough in the ressies to get the promotion?

Lonergan and Playfair played quite well against North Ballarat in the VFL last week-- but seeing that's against poor opposition on a cold and rainy day, I'm not sure if that accurately translates to either of them earning a shot against Essendon and/or Port Adelaide over the next fortnight. I hope I'm wrong, though.
The answer for Mooney's replacement is Steve Johnson, definitely over the short term.
As for Nathan Ablett, I think it would be wise to wait until he makes some sort of public decision, one way or the other, about applying or not applying for the draft before we entertain any speculation about his potential.

I wonder how quickly this announcement will come after the AFL hopefully allows clubs to draft more then one player under the father-son rule per year. ;)

Depends-- would either of the aforementioned players (Mark Blake or Nathan Ablett) be deemed worthy of sacrificing a second-round draft pick for?
Discussion here, on the AFL forum: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72688
I'd do it, regardless-- but would the rest of us spend that pick accordingly?
