Apparantly the NSW/ACT squad for the championships has been chosen. I can't find the full squad yet, but an in an earlier thread we pondered how many reinforcements they would get from the Murray Bushrangers.

Well the Bushies have published that Luke Schlig, Shaun Daly, Nick Braybon, Luke Taylor, Sam Nevins, Jayden Kotzur and Ben Aalbers have been selected.

And for the Under-18 watchers out there. Vic Country players will not be available in round 11 or round 12. NSW/ACT players will not be available in round 12. I am pretty sure Vic Metro squad players sit out round 12 as well.

Murray should miss about 16 players in round 12, perhaps not a game to put in your diary.

Ask and ye shall receive...

The NSW/ACT RAMS U18 State team has been selected in readiness for the AFL National U18 Championships to be played in Melbourne in early July.

Head coach Rod Carter, Doug Daniels and Leigh McPhan (ACT), Jeff Chandler (Southern NSW) and Bret Allison (Sydney) finalised the squad after watching them play SA, Northern Territory and Queensland in recent weeks.

Two week ago the RAMS had a historic 11point win over the division one South Australian team at Richmond oval in Adelaide. It was the first time since 1995 that an underage NSW/ACT State side has played a division one State.

The NSW/ACT U18 State team has won seven of their past nine matches played in division II of the AFL National U18 Championships.

The AFL National U18 Championships attract AFL club recruiting scouts all intent on trying to unearth the next Michael Voss or Paul Kelly.

Since 1997 NSW/ACT has had 47 players drafted or rookie listed by AFL clubs and all of these players represented NSW/ACT at the U18 Championships.

The final 24 is: (local club in brackets)
Kyle Archibald (Ungarie), Jared Kahlfeldt (Wagga), David Boers (Pennant Hills), Adam Leechman (Eastlake), Nick Potter (Pennant Hills), Scott Faulkner (Ainslie), Shaun Daly (Corowa Rutherglen), David Love (Belconnen), James Nunan (Wentworth), Tim Holobowski (Deniliquin), Dale Perrett (St George), Earl Shaw (Campbelltown), Ed Clarke (North Shore), Brad Cross (Pennant Hills), Sam Nevins (Berrigan), Andrew Hodgson (Pennant Hills), David Trotter (Lockhart), Luke Schilg (Albury), Ben Aalbers (Lavington), Jayden Kotzur (Albury), Nick Braybon (Finley), Luke Taylor (Lavington), Tim O’Dwyer (Assumption) and Ben McGlynn (Wentworth). Emergencies: Peter Kefalas (UNSW-ES), Glenn Stevens (Campbelltown), Justin Barratt (Pennant Hills), Steven Gill (Weston Creek), Rhys Cutifani (Tuggeranong) and Matt Leeds (East Coast Eagles).

One player from the six emergencies named will be added to the team in the next two weeks

I reckon they will be the team to beat in Div 2 - some very solid form going in. Archibald, Daly, Trotter, Nevins and McGlynn are the ones I'll be watching closely.

Have any of the other squads been announced (apart from WA - and I still can't find details such as heights, weights and DOB for them)? I know Vic Metro and Country were deciding this week, but I haven't seen anything yet.

On a lighter note, did anyone see Delta Goodrem's brother was named in the under-16 squad?

Watch 16 yo ruckman Earl Shaw - he's already 190cm tall and big things are expected of him.

I watched him in the Challenge Cup, and his kicking style is atrocious - no joke, it's the worst I've seen since Charlie Manson. Not convinced at this stage.
