Samm,
Not quite sure why you are so intent on pointing out Milne's size.
He is a small forward and plays like one. I would love for him to turn out to be even half the player that Jeff Farmer, Ronnie Burns and Phil Matera are. These are other smalls who play in the same position.
It doesn't matter how many good marking forwards we have if we don't have a small forward to pick up the crumbs when the ball hits the deck.
Good Luck Stephen. Great to have another player with a bit of mongrel about him too. (Time for a change of signature http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif)

well done to stephen milne he is an excitement machine, as all skillfull, little, short, tiny, knee high to a grass hopper forwards are.
samm did you notice who the two most effective forwards for us were last week, callahan and jones.
if our lumbering tall forwards could take a mark and kick straight we might win this week.

i did not know how tall ronnie burns or farmer was. and did not think of it. my assumption was that forwards had to be tall or that only the the Full forward?

Samm,
You're right that at all teams need the talls to provide a focal point for the midfielders.
However, there is no way that a forward line could exist with all tall players. As soon as the ball hit the deck, there would be no players there for the crumbs and the opposition would clear it out easier.
The best forward lines have some big marking forwards and little guys to feed of them when the ball hits the ground. An effective key forward will mark the ground or at least bring it to ground for the smaller guys.
I think our forward line has a heap of talent. When everything comes together, we will score quite highly. Stephen Milne is the kind of player that we have been looking for and I'm rapt that he has been given a chance.

Good on ya Milney!
One of the few players to do the club proud.
Here's hoping last night is the start of a long career for the St Kilda Football Club.

I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised with his showing. I feared he may be a bit too light in this company, (too many years of watching number 5 has left me sceptical), but he went and got the ball, and showed poise and balance.
We have for years tried to find that elusive goal kicking crumber, I go back to Foschini, Antrobus, J. Krakouer, Mitchell, Charles, and many others to provide that spark, which so often brings us undone at the other end. Heres hoping he brings that dimension to our forward line, at the moment the marking forwards are flying against each other as well as their opponents, making it impossible on a windy night to hold our marks. You never saw Tredrea and Cornes or Primus or whoever competing with each other in the air, it was always either one on one, or out on the lead.
