His performance in this ODI series has been substandard both bat and ball, especially the 3rd ODI. 0/44 from just 6.1 overs, albeit he should never have been given the ball to bowl the final over. Poor planning by Ponting not to have a real paceman bowl the over, and then to give it to Hopes who had a shocking economy over Smith is beyond fathom.

Give Hopes the flick, and get a real quick in his place.

Hazlewood in imo. Can see the logic in Punter choosing Hopes for the final over - ball was doing things and he probably figured we'll either castle one going for the slog or she's over.

We've lost three games on the trot. It's not like anyone else is looking like a match-winner. Our real guns with the bat aren't firing and there's stuff all you can do trying to defend 212.

Hes back to average again after his 5 fer against Ireland. If hes playing he should be in the top 7 not as a bowler. May as well give Hazlewood a go now that the series is lost.

Watched it just now, couldn't beleive this joker was still going around, just when Australia needed a bowler to stand up, after Taity and Dougie, Hopes gets carted. Played his last game for Australia tonight.
Get rid of now.

Hazlewood in, Smith as the allrounder, Harris to swing the bat at 8th. Leaves us with a long-ish tail, but though I'm fond of Hopes, he doesn't do enough with ball or bat. Honestly, dishing up a length ball outside off at the death when they needed 3 to win? :o

Botham called it correctly, 'third man up, fine leg up, he'll want to put this up and at the stumps' what happens?, good length outside off, snick to 3rd man boundary.
There endeth a career.

I've been saying for a long time that Hopes is nothing more than a bit player. With the up coming World Cup in the subcontinent Australia will end up plaing Smith in the all rounders position.

So you can pretty much throw a blanket over Hopes, Hauritz and even Smith due to a poor economy rate.

Hopes should go, still not convinced about Hauritz, while the top order, namely our captain has to make a long overdue stand.

C'mon Ricky, the Poms are laughing at us. Are you gonna take that?

Let's hope they all show a bit of national pride tonight.

His stats look ok at a glance but last night had nothing to do with stats, it was a clutch play and he wasn't up to it, Hopes bowls a yorker, we're still in the game.

Looks pretty bad for James, but he isnt supposed to be a strike bowler anyway. Bowlers like this work when there is pressure on (weather it be at the other end or in the innings in general). That said, unless he is batting well when he is bowling like he is, he doesnt really have a spot in the side.

Yep has been really poor, he's not good enough for international level, he's been costly in every game, need to look to the future and move this spud on

Far from getting rid of him, he's wormed his way into the 20/20 team. I suppose he has squatter's rights being over there already. I'd fancy him as a hitter in 20/20. Bowling might get really tonked though.
