Self-explanatory thread really? Why?

Do we want to rest Hurley? Hey, Why don't we rest Ryder and Bellchambers too?

Davey's barely missed a beat the last 5-6 weeks - let's rest him.

Actually, why don't we just swap Bendigo with our seniors side - that way, everyone will get a rest!!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I suggest it is because Zaharakis's form has dropped off in the last 4 or 5 weeks.

Common for first, second and third year players to be in and out of the AFL team.

Look at Geelong for evidence

Whilst I agree, he's had a rest now with the mid season break. Let's see what sort of form he returns in and then take it from there.

Your both wrong because his form hasn't dropped off at all in the past 4-5 weeks - he was one of our best in the 2nd half vs the Hawks.

Geelong's seniors are miles better than ours, they can afford to gradually expose them to AFL. We don't have that luxury.

It can't be ignored that Zaharakis has done great this season.. He should be congratulated on his hard work.. A downpour on form just looks like second year blues..

We can't take a step backwards and drop him.. If his form gets any worse as it is at the moment, then we may consider dropping him then. otherwise the midyear break should do him well and boost up those energy levels.

The same applies for all other players in a form slump. i.e. Gumby, Lonergan, Slattery.ect

the same people should ask the question
"why am i so stupid?"

hes a second year player, hes had a week off he needs as much game time as he can get to build up a fitness base ASAP!

Summed it up pretty well. But seeing as everyone just came back from a break there's no point resting anyone because they were looking tired.

Good Call, educated call, right call, you obviously watch the games call...

Why would we need to rest someone when everyone has just had a week off already?

I don't get why we would rest anyone a week after when everyone has had a rest.

"Resting" aside, there are those out there who believe that Zaka's form has dropped in the past month or so of footy - they've been found out - he is basically getting identical numbers to the first 6 weeks of the season.

Yeah, we need to get as many games into him and others that are going to take us forward as we can.

Hold On

I am not suggesting that he have a break - But that he may spend time at Bendigo.

I would like Zaharakis to spend more time in the midfield but the coach must have his reasons.

But why even suggest he be dropped? Surely not based on form? He is close to our most consistent player this year and we need his quality disposal/decision making in the side.

IMO we're a poorer side when he's not there - what does dropping him to Bendigo do? He is far, far a class above VFL level - he needs to develop in the AFL.

To be fair the time out of the seniors seemed to do Davey some good...

Normally I would agree in saying 1st/2nd year players to get tired during a year and a week back at the reserves or a week off does help but not after the mid season break.

Even if he was struggling, I'd say that for the sake of Zaka's 2011, he needs to play every game this year, so that his body is up to it going forward.
That said, I don't think he's slowed much at all anyway.

I think the stats can easily be used to support the assertion that is form is down - his disposals are down (yes slightly) and his shots on goal have halved (over 3 per game to less than 1.5). You could argue that his shots are down because he's moved further up the ground, but then his disposals should have gone up not down.

FWIW I don't think he should be rested as I hope the split round took care of that.

I would personally like to see Zaka given more of a run in the midfield.

just for development

Dont just look at possessions - My eyes tell me that in recent weeks that Zaharakis has been getting a fair percentage of possesions in junk time.

I see Zaharakis as an outside chance to be an A Grade Midfielder - so would like to see him play a few games in the midfield at Bendigo.

Would prefer this happens in the Seniors but he doesnt get much of a go min the midfield.

Noticed this as well, though it looks like he's been playing deeper for the first few quarters then moved up the ground later in the match.
