View Full Version : preview Neagle to come in for Gumbleton?

Pretty self explanatory..
Should we give Gumbleton a break in the VFL for a few weeks?
And does Neagle deserve a second chance in the Seniors to prove himself?
Or [Third Option] could both work side by side up forward this week against Adelaide?

So because there is no pears and fletcher which means hurley will probably go back you just want neagle in the forward line?
You want Neagle who has done nothing to deserve his spot in the afl for being lazy in the vfl?

I think we should leave Gumbleton in the team so long as he's not injured or suspended. The more AFL experiance he gets now, the better he will become. He's not doing anything wrong either, he's been taking good contested marks and kicking some goals. His season at the moment has been fantastic for a bloke who has been plagued with injuries, and only 5 games under his belt by the start of this season.
If anything, we could bring Neagle in the side, have Hurley replace Fletcher at Fullback, and play Neagle at Full Foward, rotating with Ryder and Bellchambers. I would think this would be one of Neagle's last chances, if he can't preform well enough during this time we have him in the side for the year, then my guess is he's leaving at the end of the year.

i think it was a question not saying neagle should come in...
however
its a must win game and we should pick the best team, but if we lose next week i think everyone should get a chance no matter VFL form we need to sort out our list and see who is a chance to make it at AFL level and who isnt, which includes Neagle, hes only played 24games hardly enough for a key position player to make his mark.

No need to drop Gumbleton. Especially now that Pears and Flecth are out.

I dont understand the reasoning behind dropping gumbelton and zaharakis.
If your dropping gumbelton on form why not hurley
Gumby
13 games, averaged over 10 disposals 16 goals
Hurley
10 games averaged 14 disposals 12 goals.
Personally i would consider their form to be about equal. so why isnt there all this fuss about dropping Hurley?.
I can understand if the reason is he needs a rest but then if he did you wouldnt play him in the vfl. Furthermore he has just had a week off so should be refreshed.
Personally I would like to see what neagle has to offer but in no way should it be at the expense of gumbelton. Id give gumby another week off in about a month but until then he keeps playing. He is improving and as such commanding more respect.

I wouldn't necessarily agree on that.. Hurley has been a lot better than Gumby IMO..
"Resting" guys in the VFL is a method used for players who are either coming back from injury, or just lack form.. I doubt a player would be rested because of chronic fatigue, otherwise we'd hear all about it.. On the other hand, Teams like Geelong rest players pretty much because they can, they want to preserve their players.
I mentioned in the Zaharakis thread. I believe if these 2nd/3rd year players who lack form at the moment shouldn't necessarily be dropped yet, unless they get any more worse.
I'm chucking Gumbleton on the peddle stool now because it may come down to that he has another poor game this week and may be dropped for round 15..

I posted a couple of weeks back prior to the Hawthorn game that I thought it was time to give Gumbleton a spell and bring in Neagle for a few weeks.
I haven't seen any Bendigo games this year so can't comment on form. What I would like to see is Neagle get another crack at it though.
He's a good chance to get the boot one way or another at the end of the year. I think he deserves an extended run at it to see if he can play at the level and if we do want to move him on, create an opportunity to add value to him on the trade table.
I don't think we'd be that much worse of based on what Hurley and Gumby have produced over the last couple of weeks anyway. Was stiff to get dropped after round one anyway.
Well Gumbleton just had a break. I don't see any need to rest him, especially as Hurley will probably be in the backline. I wouldn't be opposed to Neagle coming in to replace Hurley up forward though. Who knows what we'll get from him though.

why would you rest someone just after a week's break? Especially someone who needs all the footy they can get after 3 years of chronic injuries. Especially when suspension and injury have virtually decimated your KPP stocks for an important game?
Neagle needs to earn a spot. So, in a word: no

Knights said Gumbleton will be managed throughout the remainder of the season. Meaning at some point he will be rested, not dropped, rested, not injured, rested.
What about Williams instead of Neagle?.. Gumby to stay in and Hurley to drop back and perhaps Danniher will get a gig?

This, this and this.
We've all been crying out to get this kid on the park. For years we've wanted him to play, and now we've got it.
Moreso, he's actually been ok. He hasn't set the world on fire, but come on, what did you want? 10 - 15 - 20 games. THATS what we wanted.
Let him play. We'll be grateful for it in the end.

We need him to play. A bit more support for him would be good though.
Neagle in contracted till the end of 2011
Darcy Daniher is injured
Mark Williams is over payed but should come in any ways..
As people have noticed, we have just had the week off, so Hurbleton should stay in the side, if they struggle then we should consider dropping them.. But for now, they should be refreshed after the bye.

After last week I was pretty disappointed with Gumby, regardless of how buggered he was, it was a poor game effort wise.
If we had options he should have been dropped to go get some form and more of the ball to work on his match day kicking, but I'll back him in this week hopefully the week off will rejuvenate him. The break probably came a week late for us.

I'd rather Merv come in to play instead of Jay!.....:thumbsd:
I suggested that Gumbleton should spnd 3 or 4 weeks at bendigo to work on parts of his game - NOT RESTED.
Probably needs to wait a week or two until fletcher/Monfries/hille return to the team.

No. He is a lazy selfish prick.

Lol, don't know what a peddle stool is, but don't put Gumby on it, sounds like he could slip and hurt his back
I don't think he is in contention this week. Gumby has had his rest this week so why does he need to go back to VFL? Gumby to play, I think Hurley will have to play back. Williams will come into the side (imo) ahead of him.

Id prefer Timmy Watson over Jobe
Terry, Neil, Chris or Anthony Daniher over Darcy
Michael Long over Anthony Long

Gumbleton has to play games. The more games he plays the better for him. He's had 3 years of resting. Sooner or later it will click for him.

Plenty of reasons - not getting a kick, looking very ordinary over the last few weeks, opportunity to really freshen up and have a mini training block after a rest, opportunity to go back to Bendigo and work on a couple of things.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not off him, just looks like the break couldn't come quickly enough for him and it hasn't been helped by the team being ordinary for a few weeks running.
Re' your last point. Hardly see how Gumby earned a spot any more than Neagle has.

A fair assessment of Gumby's performance in 2010.
Anyway he stays in the team until Fletcher comes back.
