On Fox Footy this weekend,there showing classic games [parts of ].
Theres some that will interest Geelong supporters :
FOX FOOTY CHANNEL [ch 15]
SATURDAY
2-3pm 1994 Qualifying Final -Geelong v Bulldogs
9.30-10.30pm Rd 10 1996 Geel v Brisbane
SUNDAY
1.30pm - 2pm Final qtr of 1994 Prelim Final v Roo's
FOX FOOTY - VIC [ch14]
SATURDAY
12-1pm ABLETT - One Special Season [1993]
[repeated at 2.30am sunday]

Ah, yes... the classics. :)
In all honesty, I wish that between the two Fox Footy channels, they would show more of this type of programming.
Won't miss out this weekend, though.

There is an old state of origin game on Fox Footy between Victoria and Western Australia in the mid 80's... very interesting to see a young Mark Bairstow and Andrew Bews running around. It was the year after Bairstow won his Sandover Medal.

I was watching the Essendon vs Geelong game from 1993 this morning... the one where Gary Ablett kicked 14 goals and yet we still lost. That was unbelievable, Salmon kicking 10 at one end, Ablett 14 at the other. The game was typical of Geelong vs Essendon games in the 1990's... a real shoot out.

I do watch those classic shows, whenever Jen lets me watch the TV. :eek:

Geelong v Brisbane in 1996 - another typical Geelong choke.
We were 3 goals up with 5 minutes to go, in total control of the game but find a way to lose that lead and Brisbane tie it up right before the siren.

That game was on my 18th birthday...
We were shocking for 3 quarters, then played unbelievable football in the first 20 minutes of the last quarter to turn a 24 point deficit into an 18 point lead, only to let Brisbane come back and pinch a draw.
How were the commentators in that game, saying this is the tougher Geelong and that chanpion sides win these types of games!! :D
It was clever of Leppitsch though, deliberately handballing the ball through for a point near the end to tie the scores.
That's the last time we actually won any points off Brisbane. :(

Should also mention that there was an edition of "Classic Quarters" on Fox Footy the other day, focusing on Geelong's narrow defeat against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval in 1999 (can't remember which round, though).
They aired the final term, and we were poor. Had a sizable lead entering the last quarter, and let it slip...
Imagine losing to Fremantle, anywhere, back in those days. :(

Unfortunately many of the games they show have Geelong losing but it was great to watch the qualifying final v Footscray today. Reminded me very much of last years Carlton game though. Ah well next week we will have a win to watch in 'last time they met'. Hope we can repeat the result Friday night.

It was round 7, 1999.
That game was the beginning of the end for Geelong that year. After winning our first 5 games and looking great, the loss to Fremantle was the 2nd of a 9 game losing streak.
Losses to Fremantle have been few and far between for us, and never at Geelong which is good. :)

Brisbane fans get the shaft (as if it were any surprise), getting none of those shows... 'tis a frigged life trying to follow a club interstate when the powers that be screw you round so much.

Some of the games we saw involving Geelong were on Fox Footy Extra -VIC .In Qld they probably show more games involving Brisbane on Fox Footy Extra -QLD.

Actually, it doesn't seem like we get a great deal extra with the second Fox Footy channel except for abundant replays of all the matches of the round. Classic Quarters are still there (though the Cats don't get much of a showing) but it doesn't seem like the range of shows and replays of old classics that you guys down south get. Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be much of a pro-Brisbane bias.
