View Full Version : After the Game in Adelaide...

Hi Guys....first time poster, so be nice. thought i would let you in on some happenings last nite that sum up exactly where our once great club is at at the moment. Live in Adelaide, extremly passionate long time bombers nuts, was at the game last nite.
I sat with a both crows and bombers mates last nite plus kids, and i was agreed that it was the most pathetic, badly coached and executed bombers game ever seen. the loss hurt, (more cos they waited till i could see them to play thie shitest football for the year), but it was more what happened after the game that has me wanting blood. After the game, we waited around the players entrance for the boys to come out, to get some photos and autographs for my mates kids who were with us. there was a small group of people waiting, so managed to get a good spot. As the boys came out, you could tell who were the ones who were hurting from the loss. Big thumbs up to Jobe, Welsh, Paddy, houli (who must have been travelling emergancy), Hocking, Natrat, and Gary Odonnell who couldnt have been better with the kids, whilst the rest just stormed past, which was disappointing, but you can understand due to the losss
However.....When Peanut Matthew Knights came out, it summed him up for me. the kids asked him for a photo and a signature, to which he arrognatly turned around and told the kids he didnt have time. He then stood 5 metres in front of us talking with corperate fans for 10 mins, which OUTRAGED the group of people who were standing with us, which led to ADBUSE being hurled at knights no end. the morale of the story...if your going to bring a badly picked team to adelaide, have them get smashed by 83 points with no game plan, and no heart, and then arrogantly ignore and brush off the fans who have waited an hour after the game in 3 degrees cold, so you can suck the ass of corperates...that is not the coach for our club. thats the difference....you would never get that from sheedy, williams, malthouse, or any other coach worth his salt, cos they understand that fans are the real lifeblood. it would have taken 30 seconds for him to see us, but all too much. thats not the image i want from my club, one of ignoring fans after you break thier heart with pathetic footy.
Anyway, thought it was worth a post.

I know I shouldn't butt in, however that is a sad story. I've met a few coaches out and about, but none more than Kevin Sheedy and he was a fantastic bloke and always had plenty of time for kids.
Knights gives off this arrogant vibe.

Why does a club as rich and successfull as Essendon have this bloke as coach. The day he was announced as your coach I was shocked.
I support the Port Magpies in the SANFL and he was just about the worst coach we ever had (since 1870). At 1/4 and 3/4 time breaks you can go on the ground and listen in, in the SANFL. I could not see how the players could play for this guy. He was full of unfounded arrogance. Anyone would think he was a five time premiership player, not a Richmond player.
FWIW Craigy comes out and sits in my Bay (in the outer at Footy Park) while the teams warm up about 30 minutes before the game. Anyone can go up and say hello and he will chat and take photos whilst there. However he is there to watch the other team warm up, something he has always done. Given he is "at work" he is very approachable.
It is not about PR, it is about treating people who pay your wages with some respect.

Maybe Knights should pay more attention to the current political landscape.
Has he taken any notice of what happened to our recently departed Prime Minister and what happens when you become arrogant !!!
very poor state of affairs:thumbsd:
Pretty disgraceful from the coach, even if was Brett Ratten who did something like that to normal fans and kids I would be very pissed off.

It's strange, the guy had such a poor coaching record at his other clubs but Essendon not only picked him above the others wanting the job, they gave him a 3 year deal. At the time I assumed the club knew something I don't but apart from making the finals (with 10 and half wins) he hasn't shown anything to put that bad record behind him.
As for his personality, it's hard to tell from seeing him on TV and the internet but he's certainly a big change from the media personality that Sheedy was. Sheedy was(/is) mad but he always had a much more inviting feel about him.

Perhaps he realised he was caught on camera having a bit of a laugh when we were being smashed. Had to talk to the corporates to restore faith/face.

Hopefully it was all a misunderstanding because it would be very disappointing and embarrassing if it was true.

I have said it before. Knights is a very very good salesman. He knows how to sell himself. Watch him on the couch, in the press conferences, even in his selection table. The board fell for it and here we are.
As the crows fan mentioned before, he was the worst coach at the port magpies ever. Since 1870.
WTF is he doing in charge of essendon.
Get him out and do it now.
A strange post.
I am certain that Knights has more on his mind that chatting to suppoters after the game.
And you seem to be an expert in facial expressions:eek:
A piece of advice to the first time OP.
Its a poor idea to call someone a Peanut in your first ever post.

We need to teach new posters decorum when they enter the Essendon Board.:)

No expert at all, just calling it as myself and the people i was standing with saw it, and thought i would pass on what happened.
I'm sure he had plenty on his mind.....but seemed to have "enough time" to spend 10 mins chatting to the corporates in front of us....not a good look for the coach of a club whose supporter base is already split on him, not doing himself any favors.

I was with Knights up until this point. I never doubted him with losses before now....
Get him out

It sounds like a case of sour grapes !
How do you know they were corporate supporters ?
I was in Melbourne in July 2008 and liased thru the club to get into the rooms after the game cause it was my wife's birthday - It couldn't be done - But I didnt come onto this board criticising the club or Craig Rowston - let alone calling Craig a peanut.
Hoping that your next post is more suspicious:p

Getting into the rooms is very different than getting an autograph.

I can understand his frustration though. We've just been embarrassed once again on national TV in arguably one of the worst performances the club has seen and Knights doesn't even show one ounce of care about the supporters and how they feel.

Wouldn't say sour grapes, I could care less bout meeting or talking to him, just the way her spoke to the group of supporters who had camped out looked extremely bad, and not what you would expect from our club.
2 of the guys he was talking to are partners at KPMG, know cos i worked there for 2 years...seems pretty corporate to me. Not blaming them at all.
I did the same thing in 2005 when went to Melbourne, and the club were fantastic about it all, got to be in the rooms and sing the song when we won, which was great...which i guess is why im so surprised by it all. essendon has always been great with its supporters and inclusive and treated us all as family, just hoping its not changing now.

U must be a corporate too ?
The quicker this ****ing peanut knights gets sacked the better it will be for all of us. The club can move forward then instead of stagnating like the last 8 years or so.

Not really. Peanut is hardly unjustified given what he saw. Don't see the difference between 1st post and 1 millionth. If he thinks he's a peanut then he'll call him a peanut. ok peanut?
Good post. Worth reading if it's true :thumbsu:.

Why? Must he build up respect before you will take in what this guy posts?
Like any other Essendon supporter, he has every right to call the coach whatever he feels like, and yes on this board as well. After the 3 years of absolute crap and lies, its time to face up and **** off. We as paid up members deserve the truth and deserve to be treated as people. Without us, this club will die.

That's pretty ****ed up.
Could he have just been too embarrassed to hang out with the supporters?
And FWIW Gary OD was brilliant when I met him earlier this year as well. Very approachable and even engaged me in conversation instead of just signing my jumper which I wasn't expecting at all.

I hate bagging out the coach but I really don't know how I feel about it all atm. To be at AAMI again and getting flogged is bad, to be non-competitve is just embarrassing. The truth is, Knights is always going to be under pressure unless we start producing some success. He's not a big name coach and he doesn't have the latitude of bigger name coaches because he doesn't have success behind him.
I guess it was only a fortnight ago that we nearly rolled the form side of the comp before Franklin put on a display and took it away from us.

I've never met him but I've always thought he would be.
FWIW, poor darts Knighta. Kids are the most important people to "sell" the club to with face to face contact. Nothing better than chatting with Simon Madden and Derek Kickett while they were sitting on the interchange bench when I played little league at Waverley (Madden's and Daniher's last game).
Read between the lines of what the OP is saying.
I asked him ( in this thread ) How did he know that Knights was chatting to corporate supporters ?
OP's response - The guys are from KPMG that i worked with 2 years ago. Which suggests that the OP ( nothing wrong with this ) works in the corporate field.
Possibly he is disaffected because Knights wouldn't give him time.
Anyway at least its created discussion, and helped us identify the hotheads on this board.:o

Lol at the fact you think theirs some sort of hierarchy on a message board the one has to build up a bunch of credible posts before he can call someone a peanut.:o:p;):mad::o Hey look everyone can use pointless emoticons to try and drive a point across.

If it's true I think it's pretty poor and to me it looked a little too heartfelt to be a troll. If it IS a troll it's a bloody good one.
If I'd been waiting outside the ground in the freezing cold with my kids to get an autograph after a performance like that, I think I would have been pretty damn shat off to be treated that way as well.
Just sayin is all..

Exactly and its why I will defend Sheeds to the hilt. Attending a thrashing at Football Park is nothing new to me even in the Sheedy years and despite this, Sheeds still had time for the fans.
Get rid of Knights. I'm sick of this negative vibe we have at the moment. He should never have been chosen in the first place.

I got a photo with him the day before if it makes you feel better. :o
It is a pretty bad doing that, especially to kids. I even got a photo with Woosha and he was nice enough to stop despite being in a real rush to get to the airport! I must say though after an 85 point smashing, it's probably not the best time to be going over to the coach who would obviously be fairly pissed off.

No Troll here fellas....just a dissappointed Bombers fan who cares about his club, and thought that id share what happened. Was hurting very bad after that loss, but looking forward to hopefully smashing the demons this week!
not sour grapes either, as mentioned earlier in the thread, i could care less about talking to him, he wasnt arrogant personally to me...he was to the kids that wanted his picture and autograph, which i thought was poor.
Don't think any coach is perfect and I'd guess every coach would have a similar moment during their career. I've heard all good things about Knighter until this 'incident'.
Mark Thompson's a ****. A pure ****. Allegedly. And visibly. As is Mick Malthouse.
Who cares. If they can coach, they can coach.
