I'm a keen collector of DVD's & Videos, although many would describe my collection as eclectic.

Some call my collection as "damn that's a hell of a lot", sic. so if others in SA would like to have a look, or even swap-borrow, leave a private message for me

can you get your hands on that many really good dvds? What's up with this region 4 bull****? I read Criterion and amazon etc and see ones that I'd like but they say that they won't work in my new player. Some that are out here seem to be not as good quality or have as much extras as their region one versions. And I see the same selection in every store. Wassup with that?

www.ezydvd.com.au is a good Australian site to buy dvds from. Have you tried there?

Yeah - thanks I think that is in Balmain so I might go out there. Just in the short time I've been looking I've found
http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/ (http://) is great for reviews and and there's a site called dvd orchard which is good for region4 stuff but still nothing compared to http://www.criterionco.com/asp/browse.asp etc. and the selection avail here seems tiny compared to other regions

I think we're up around the 250 DVD mark by now... oddly enough, I only own about 3-4 videos. Guess I was always worried about the quality wearing out after repeated plays!!

A mix of regions, mostly R4, but a few R1 and some R2 discs..

I have a few Aussie sites you can try for DVD's, some of them specialise in film noir, freaky sci-fi, etc

These have a reasonable range (http://www.allaboutmovies.com.au/)

Another good supplier (http://www.dvdguide.com.au/)

This one is eccentric (http://www.trashvideo.com.au/)

Pretty good range (http://www.tvw.com.au/)

Check this for the very strange stuff available in USA (http://www.videowasteland.com/)

Finally have a look at this if you also are a military movie nut, like me (http://www.militaryvideo.com/store/store.cfm)

It's a funny thing, hobbies are so very individual, I enjoy collecting what I do, just as you would enjoy indulging your own collecting habits.

So I fail to appreciate your point in having a sledge at me, oh well, it takes all kinds.

I see the point. I started a collection of movies awhile back but then stopped because I did feel it was a waste of money as I never watched them more than a few times and only when someone else was over who hadn't seen the movie or we just felt like a laugh, scare or whatever the case may be.
That said my personal hobby is pretty much finding out infomation about WWII fighter planes and I used to have a collection of models, most were damaged during a house move but I plan to start it again some time soon. Alot of people would agree this is a waste of money and time so I also agree with what Asgardian said, Each to their own.

Just wondering Asgardian how many DVDs/videos do you have? An old mate of mine has been collecting horror movies for a long time and has somewhere near 200 I think of this as alot.

I collect aussie and kiwi movies ... and have 5 bookcases squeezed into our little flat full of video casettes ...

The fad comes and goes ... I'm always running hobbies ... local footy history having overtaked movie collection these last few years.

The DVD collection, between my movies and those of my wife, totals probably only about 30.

Although it can be expensive, and I'm not exactly flush, its not money that's the big problem for me, its space!

Yep, I have a multi-region DVD player (an LG something or other). Actually a lot of players now are either multi-region or can be modified to be multi-region. Do a search on your particular model on google or something, you'd be surprised how many are multi-region right out of the box.

Yeah while trying to get the code for our DVD player I stumbled across a site that had all sorts of tricks for 'converting' standard DVD players into multi-region BUT there is also a warning that they can screw up your player. We just got a code from where we bought it and BINGO!!!!! Multi-region. :D

Comes in handy for watching Beach Boys DVDs because most of them are in AMERICAN format.

My brother goes overseas to Asia once or twice a year (RAAF or holidays) and comes back with a lot of DVDs. Help me if he lived in Geelong instead of Adelaide, tho.

Try this place for DVD codes...

www.vcdhelp.com and go to 'DVD Hacks' section.

If anyone in Adelaide is thinking about buying a DVD player, drop me a line in my private messages... I work at an electrical retailer.

Havent got a lot of DVDs. I have about 20 music/sport ones and a couple of movie ones and thats it. Got tons of videos - mostly Sports highlights tapes me and my dad have compiled for 20 years. You want a sport highlight from the last 20 years (weekly footy highlights, plenty of horse racing and cricket and other stuff) then weve probably got it on tape somewhere. Ive also got tons of music video clips on tape as well.

CDs are my addiction tho. Havent counted for a few months but id say its over 750-800 and grows every week.

Ta for that - I'll look - I just bought an LG VHS/DVD cause I still want to video TV as you know the FTA footy comes on really late here (cut up version of FRiday night footy (Bombers/Cats) game on 5 am Sat morning  ) I check out my machine tonight - it was fairly cheap so I'm not expecting it to be multi regional. I only started checking out DVDs after I purchased it. ALso discoverd CH31 :D :D :D now I have Bollywood tunes running around my head and a Theory for Everything :D :D

Also thanks Asgardian for those sites... I just bought Grand Illusion for nine bucks at the mall....and Gone in 30 Seconds is $40 bucks so I see qualilty is the determining factor :D

I'd love to be able to 'collect' DVD's, but unfortunately it just isn't financially feasible for me. I do however grab a decent one if I see it in the 'ex rental' bin on a Monday at the local Blockbuster Store.

That said..........copied DVD's...

Any good? Do you lose much quality etc?

Is it really as fairly straightforward as this?

(As you will see I have an elcheapo machine, but hey it does the job at present.)
