I`m heading to Melbourne on July 11th with the family, my son plays for Fitzroy in the ammy juniors over here. I`d like to take him to a place (pub, club) where the old photo`s, pennants ect are on display. Would also like to pick up a jumper for him to wear at training. Could you help with an address.
Also heading over there next weekend with a mate, My only AFL fix for the year, can`t stand AMMI stadium.
So
Can I buy a ticket for the Coll - Doggies game at Telstra, or would it just be easier to buy a ticket at the gate ? if so, how early would we have to get there ?, it`s a Saturday night game. We`re staying at the Savoy not far from there, so we could get a ticket & retire to a pub for a few before the game. (good pub ?).
Planning on going to Optus on the Sunday, love that place, want to stand in the outer, should I get a ticket, or is it a safe risk to just to roll up ?
My mates in law & I run a landscaping buisness, so we`re chalk & cheese, he wants to go to a bar called force 4, or f4, is this a yuppie bar, or can normal ie: me, blokes feel comfortable there ?
Thanks in advance to the Fitzroy tourist information centre.
Cheers Holly.

One pub with Roys memorabilia is the Lord Newry, which is next to Brunswick Street Oval.
July 11 eh?
Well on Saturday July 12, Fitzroy Reds (second on ladder) are home to Peninsula (1st on ladder) ... should be a big match!
Not sure how you get tickets to the AFL match.
The Napier in Fitzroy used to have a bit of stuuf on the walls etc, but I haven't been in there for quite a few years.

Rabs is right. The Napier is a good one to visit. Celebrated both the 2001 and 2002 premierships there, along with a couple of hundred other ex-Roy Boys and Girls. Lots of Fitzroy stuff on display. Its located in Napier Street Fitzroy, diagonally opposite the Fitzroy Town Hall.
You could also try the Brisbane Lions office and bar at the Manningham Club in Bulleen. The Manningham Club is appalling (very Queensland-like in appearance) but the BL office-bar has various Fitzroy history / mementos on display.

Definately the Napier. We walked there from PP with the kids+flags+scarves after the slashing win V Blues and you could almost remember the full suburban experience.
Pop over the road to the Brunswick St. Oval on a Sunday and you'll see the colours running around in Junior footy all day. Come up and have a chat and join in the club song - the club's going OK so there's a fair chance.

Also .. try Haskins in Nth. Fitzroy. Lots of good stuff there and a short stroll to the ground.

Thanks all, could you give me an address for that game Mobbin, looks tempting. Fitzroy playing this weekend ? if so, where, chance to get there as well.
Holly
If you are after a jumper you should contact Bill Atherton at the club.
Not sure if he has them in stock, but you won't know unless you ask him!!

This weekend? Err ... yes ... but didn't think you'd be over here for 3 weeks!
This weekend coming is Brunswick Street Oval again v Oakleigh.
Brunswick Street Oval is in Edinburgh Gardens on brunswick St in North Fitzroy.

Yeah Mobben, this weekend for a boys weekend, & on the 11th with the family.
Excuse my stupidity, what`s the best way to Brunswick oval ?
Wet, & cold, great footy weather, I`ll pm my mobile no. if you want to go this weekend, but a definate meetup on the 12th.
Told my son we were going to a Fitzroy game & he stated that he`d prefer it to the AFL. Well trained that one.

The BSO is best reached for a newcomer by a tram from Collins St in the city ... Umm #11 or something ... anyone help us out with that?
I go to all the home matches, so I'll be at the BSO for both of those Redders matches that you mention. So yeah, feel free to send me your mob# along with a good time to call and I'll get in touch.

Thanks to all,
Staying on Collins St so it looks like we`ll hop on the 112 at Midday, stop off for a drink at the Lord Newry, & head down to Brunswick to see the Mighty Roys. Looking forward to meeting some of you at the 'grassy knoll'.
Cheers Holly.
HP it's stop #24 for the Lord Newry, stop #25 for BSO, also The Rose @ 406 Napier St has FFC memorabilia it has the original 1896 team photo +.
Also look in at the Old Colonial 127 Brunnie St between stops 18-19, it has a plaque on the wall re the formation of the Fitzroy Football Club.
Most pubs in Fitzroy have some Fitzroy memorabilia in them so it shouldn't be hard to find some.

Gawd the mention of the Napier brings back Best & Fairest count memories!
