Little-known seamer Peter George is a chance of making his Test debut for Australia in the two-match series against Pakistan in England.
Fantastic news for George. All the best Peter :thumbsu:
Would prefer Cutting but all the best to big two metre Pete

Cutting isn't fit. It will be interesting to see if he gets a game.

You'd think only if Hilfenhaus spuds it up in his return game. And even then, they should give him a chance...

One article has talked up George getting his pace into the mid-130's. If it's true then he is sweet to go, but if he consistently below 130, he will go the journey.

Doubt he'll get a game but good luck to him.
Interesting to see a bowler like Copeland burst onto the scene with one of the most impressive debut seasons from a quick in a loooong time, yet be basically ignored by the governing bodies, not so much in this situation but to not even make the A sides when spuds like Starc are there.

Think its fair to say George outperformed Hilf in the games vs Sri Lanka A. That isn't to say Hilf should probably be preferred n English conditions, but picking George would not be going against form.

i'll admit that i don't know a lot about george.
so if everyone were fit and healthy, how far down the pecking order would he really be?
and if he only bowls mid-130s, why is he in the squad and not mcdonald, allowing the freedom to play smith for north (with haddin 6, smith 7 and mcdonald 8)?

Nothing wrong with mid 130s if you're good enough, see McGrath G.
There's also a significant difference when you're bowling 130 from 6'8 + arm length.

Also G Mcgrath's strength.
Some bowlers just look pedestrian at that pace, you really need that ability to be constantly making the batsmen play that Mcgrath had.

Looks like Hilfy will miss the next test due to injury. Step up PG!!
I think the English conditions will suit him, gets good swing and movement off the deck.

I get the impression that George is in the test squad for this short tour more for experience than anything else. My tip would be for Clint McKay to take Hilfs place if he doesn't get up.

I would agree but for the fact that George had already done that in NZ.
This reminds me of the 2005 Ashes where Tait was in the squad but they called up Stuart Clark as an extra backup but Tait still got the gig.

True. The more you look at it the more a nothing series against Pakistan, where they are self imploding (see afridi) as they did last summer, probably isn't a bad way to blood an up and coming quick. It isn't like the middle of an ashes series or on decks that give jack all to the pacemen.
Who knows, you could be right. I guess we'll find out on Wednesday.
