PARKES MOVE AHEAD OF THE PACK

The Parkes Panthers moved to the top of the table with a strong 20 point win over an improving CSU side in last Saturday’s Round 9 CWAFL match. The match, at North Parkes Oval, saw Patrick Byrne continue his strong form for the Panthers while Scott Collins was best afield for the students.

Parkes managed to move ahead of the Cowra Blues after Dubbo showed they remain a force to be reckoned with. The Dubbo Demons downed Cowra at South Dubbo Oval by the impressive margin of 85 points. Greg Richter kicked 5 for the Demons while NSW under 16 representative player Nathan Twomey moved into the top five of the goalkickers for the league with a bag of four majors.

A fogbound Anzac Oval in orange was the venue for the Orange Tigers v Mudgee Black swans match with the hosts proving too strong. On a good note for the struggling Swans their reserves managed to register a win. The big win will be a boost for the Tigers who are looking to overhaul CSU to remain in the toip foiur.

While Parkes are out in front on the ladder Cowra remain in second place with Dubbo now breathing down their necks in third. CSU and Orange are level pegging in fourth spot followed by Bathurst, who had the bye, and the Mudgee Black Swans.

Next week CSU will host the Mudgee Black Swans at George Park Bathurst starting at 1pm. The blockbuster is at Parkes who host Dubbo. Dubbo will be looking to close the gap on the leading sides and this game should be a good contest of two form sides. Orange and Bathurst do battle at Anzac Park Orange in a contest that will be vital for the Eagles finals hopes. Cowra host Katoomba-Lithgow as part of an invitational series of games pitting the new Katoomba-Lithgow side against existing CWAFL clubs.
