Now is Fremantles midfield the best in the league?
You would have to agree that there in and under, bottom of pack, center clearance players are second to none.
With the likes of Bell,Haselby,Fletcher and Cook simply unpassable in that department.
But currently what we lack are the recieving wing type players with the silky skills and finish prowess.
In that department we fall down badly with Mc Manus and Norrish.
Walker is the one shining light but he still is taking his time coming on as a player.

Personally I believe a Headland next year would fit in very nicely, along with a simon black http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif.
Definitely on department we need to improve on.
Simpson and Hayden look promising and I would even suggest putting Koops there as well.

It aint looking too good for Freo's midfield after they were taken apart today by a bunch of no-names like Stevens, Harvey, Simpson, Harris, and Smith. http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif

sabre - and Fremantle would do a lot better if they actually had the 2 best products from Fremantle from the 90's playing with them (Woewodin and Farmer)

Well I didnt see the game.
Nor do I have any midfield stats.

BUT
Fletcher was out for the second half
Cook wasnt playing
Black wasnt playing.

There is half the fab midfield out.

Haselby from what I hear proved, he is the best young mid field prospect in the comp again.

And Bell was well held.

Once again I think we fell down forward wise.So Headland here we come.

Sabre,

Freo did okay in the first half...you guys actually led at quarter time and at half time, the margin was a goal or two in North's favour. In fact, I was surprised to see North leading as I thought that Freo had the better of the play.

In the second half though, Freo just stopped and it became just a training run for North. It seemed that once North lifted the pressure one level, Freo just fell apart. You do need an alternate forward option to Modra, and you also need to go for goal when the chance arises...it seemed to me that when a Freo player had a good chance at getting a goal, they took one step too many or tried to pass to another player. As for your backline, it crumbled under the number of attacks being launched by the North midfield. You seemed to play one man extra in defence, but it meant a free North player in the 35 to 55 m zone outside of goal and we seemed to have gotten plenty of long goals.

It seems to me that Freo are still one tall defender and one tall forward short of having a side that will be able to compete against every other side.

That was a time when we had nothing but hope...

Different story today...We have expectations.

your dead right...I remember watching games back then with a strange apathetic feeling hoping that we'd win, but having a realistic notion that we would've most likely smited.... think that our time is coming and we have to feel pain before the glory. Good god - the Drum years... so long ago now..... ;)

Dosent expectation certainlty change the way we perceive where our team should be - especially in regards to this current season....
