Interesting developments.

I note in the hard copy version, a little box, "Day 2: NRL fights back." Who gives a shit? just News Ltd protecting its NRL investment.

----------- in the article:

" The latest AFL overview of football in Sydney trumpets that participation has grown by 150 per cent in the past five years - from 9000 to 22,500 participants.

The NRL has in the past criticised the figures, asserting they are rubbery, but Matthews said there was a strict criteria.

"We count participants as people who have been involved in competitions or programs for a minimum of six weeks," Matthews said.
That includes regular participants in Auskick programs"

Auskick is great but it must take the next step and convert a percentage to junior competitions over time.

Given the thread title, this part has so much meaning:

Mission control is at a new ground in the outer west that will act as the club's training venue. It is in Rooty Hill, with the famous RSL club just up the road. Yet the ground sits in Blacktown Olympic Park, so Blacktown it is - a relief to the marketing people.

the marketing opportunity has been sadly missed for the WS Wombats..... Eats Roots and Leaves .........as the Yanks say "are you rooting for your team?"

Good to read about the honchos involved. Easy to forget that a new club is only started by sloggers in paddocks and car-parks, far removed from the corporate luncheons we tend to only associate them with. Even honchos have to have courage and fortitude. Real people with sleepless nights..... :footy:
