Is there a shop anywhere within the Adelaide CBD that has a decent selection of classical CDs? I have been looking for something in particular (Delibes' "Lakme", if you care) and cannot find it anywhere. Every shop I've been to has at most one classical shelf, and stocks only well-known stuff with a few token compilations. Is there a shop anywhere in Adelaide that specialises in classical music?

Been a while since I've lived in Adelaide but there use to be a pretty good classical music selection in a shop in that group between Twin Street and Pultney Street. Twin Street Plaza???
We are talking 8-9 years ago. It's probably a MacDonalds by now.

Yeah, I remember that shop, they've got a reasonable collection if they still exist.

There's also a music store in Gays Arcade (off Adelaide Arcade) if its still going, and there's a decent selection down the back at The Muses too.

The Muses in the mall has a reasonable classical selection also.

As others have suggested Muses in the mall has a pretty big range at the rear of the shop in a separate section/sales area.

Others that would have a decent range are......

Unirecords
Adelaide University Gate 9 Off Victoria Drv 8223 4851

Blackwood Sound
4 Coromandel Pde Blackwood 8278 1281

The Compact Disc Shop
27 King William Rd Unley 8272 1633

Nostalgic Sounds
199b Unley Rd Unley 8271 4466

The Record Library
32 Twin St Adelaide 8223 6095

Yesterday & Today Music
16 Taylor St Brompton 0417 821 106

Mind you if you can't find what you're after (or put on order) at Muses I doubt the others would be helpful or try the online shops like Chaos who it looks like they have what you are after.......

Lakme (http://www.chaosmusic.com/shop/search.asp?category=All&searchParameter=Classical&phrase=Lakme&store=0&dep=0&x=22&y=10)

Helpful as always, dreamy :)

I had already tried the Muses, 'coz I knew they had a big classical selection at the back, but to my amazement it was gone, replaced with DVDs.

I returned yesterday for a closer look and discovered their classical stuff has all been moved upstairs. D'oh! Didn't have what I wanted though.

I did find a copy of Lakme in the Twin St arcade shop (thankyou LL) however it was a 2-CD-plus-book package and cost $50

I didn't realise Unirecords stocked classical gear. Very handy for me, since I work on campus :D I'll check it out on my lunch break.

...probably because they don't stock classical music. I just looked the place over. Plenty of pop/alternative/retro stuff, and a shelf of jazz/blues, but no classical.

Chaos music, here I come...

Sorry for the bum steer but I was told by someone that they did.

Might also pay to check Sanity (http://www.sanity.com.au) and HMV (http://www.hmv.com.au) as there could be differences in the prices.
