After seeing Richmond succeed, I can't help but be ecstatic for the bloke. He's done an amazing job as coach of them to not only get them competing, but actually get them winning games.
I wish him, not Richmond all the best. :p

When Channel 10 announced he'd be our next coach I was doing cartwheels. A few hours later I found out Knights was appointed and I was scratching my head.
I've been scratching my head for 3 years now.
I was gutted when we let him go to Port. His first half in the GF against the Lions got them a flag. Another Essendon champion succeeding at another club.

We had to let him go to Port.

Agree makes me depressed seeing our past champoins succeed at other clubs.

Hardwick has won flags at Essendon and Port as a player and then won a flag at Hawthorn as Al Clarksons right hand man. Success seems to follow him everywhere he goes.
I have a lot of respect for this bloke as a player and a coach and I wish he was still an assistant coach at Hawthorn. Nice work Damien :thumbsu:

Yeah, he certainly knows what is takes to win, I remember thinking the same thing of his credentials.
I'm impressed by Hardwick, managing to get these good wins with a spoon favourite team but it might be worth remembering that this happened in Knights' first season where we lost heaps of games and then out of nowhere we won 6 out of 7 or something.

oh well mate, after a Richmond champion in Sheeds and his cronies(Keane, Morris, Judkins, Wood) set ESS up in the modern era and won a string of flags not seen since the 60's, tis only fair you guys return the favour, cheers:thumbsu:

Not sure it's Hardwick or Cousins or Hardwick/Cousins, but I think they seemed to have brought a real spirit to the Tigers.
I was just saying to a mate the other day that obviously Cuz offers some sort of spirituality to a team. West Coast played with it when he was there and now the Tigers. It might be the mateship from a few bevvies or whatever but it's an intangible the Tigers definitely have atm.

hardwick is genuine in a team first mentality, which is very much reflected in the wya the tigers are playing. Haven't seen this teamwork since Hafey was coach. I don't think you guys have too much to worry in the future, James Hird will be next coach and be the next Paul roos

Yep, I wanted him.
I was in disbelief when I heard Knights got the job; my actual quote was "Not Matthew Knights?" with a smile of utter confusion.
I stuck by him and supported him as he was now our coach.
I don't give a shit about the guy now. I want him gone. I'm officially off.
I want every coach except for Madden gone, with Richardson 'demoted' to development coach, although he won't accept that.
I want this club to get its shit together and start creating the success it's renowned for.
Seeing that this is a toast thread we should include Ross Lyon, Mark Thompson, paul roos, Brad Scott and many others.

I know the board wanted to look beyond any previous ties the player had but I would have thought that if both were equal in their presentations both reaching the final stages then you would go for the much loved former player.
Wasnt Hickmont the leader of the process?
I always found Knights an odd choice because as much as I liked Knights as a player I was never impressed at how he handled losing the captaincy.

Ditto. I clearly remember those twats from Sports Tonight going early and declaring Dimma had the job. I was ecstatic. Imagine my despair when Knights got the job.
It was a no-brainer to give Dimma the job. He was hard at it and tough as a player, became an Essendon premiership player, went to Port and played in another flag, did a coaching apprenticeship at a successful club, etc. He has been around success for his entire football life. By contrast, Knights has never, ever been around success and in fact had a demonstrable record of failure as a coach. But hey, he could do a good powerpoint presentation. Yippee. Absolute negligence on the boards part to appoint Knights.

Every word of this is me.
Always love Hardwick, was sad to see him go as a player, and sad we missed him as a coach. But good luck to him, he's great for the game. :thumbsu:
