Just broken on ACA. Involves a cricket hero who has won many awards outside cricket and a "respectable" woman. Wasn't many details and my memory is too buggered to remember the whole story.

Are you serious? Is it Gilly.

Yep they said that he had had a long term affair with the woman, had a child with her and now is refusing to pay support, hence she has gone public. They said that this player was a hero and had received awards for his work overseas. i think an educated guess may lead you to conclusion but lets wait and see.

Shit didn't see that! I was thinking of someone else.

The first few words into the report I was thinking Michael Slater, then thought maybe it is Gilchrist. Now i'm thinking is it Steve Waugh?

Reading between the lines it is someone Sydney based.

Not Shane Warne even though it right up his alley.

I thought one of the Waugh's right away, but maybe even Mark Taylor? Past Australian of the year.

16 Jul 2010, 19:54
Yeah, I realise it's not Shane Warne, just a tongue-in-cheek comment.
Not sure if I can speculate who I think it is, although I think he's finally worked out how to tell a girl that she's the one for him.
Won't name a name, as I've received a warning for it on BigFooty in the past (speculating on the name of the suspect in the "Hey Dad" case before he was named, even though I turned out to be correct).

The only person I can think of that is a hero and has done many great things outside of cricket goes by the initials G.M...............and it aint Greg Matthews.

I'm guessing it's not Greg Mail either. ;)

I know who you mean, but I'd be surprised if it was him. Doesn't seem like someone who'd do something like this. If it was, I wonder if he made the woman go "ooh aah"!

On a totally unrelated matter, have you ever been inside one of these stores? Some great bargains!

Pretty sure they said the player was married.

I didn't see the report so I'm just throwing it out there. I'm with Jack though, I really don't think Pigeon would do something like that but you never know.

Gotcha. Could it be an older one. DK perhaps?

The one I'm thinking of, his marriage went bust about this time last year (12 month period).
That store I mentioned earlier, they've got a great deal on chainsaws.

If it is pidge, it would kill the McGrath Foundation.

Maybe that's what they mean by 'heavily involved with charity work'?

My dad reckons someone said it was a current player. Did anyone else hear that?

Yeah Steve was the first one I thought of when it said won awards outside cricket and charity work

Current player? Couldnt think of any that fit the bill

On the balance of probabilities its most likely Lee, not sure about the charity angle though, its a nice little detective puzzle and a bit of fun, but if its Steve Waugh because of the charity angle, we could have our very own Tiger Woods.

It was on ACA at 6:30, the player will be announced on Monday if it hadn't already been leaked by then.

Unlikely to be a link because Channel 9 labelled it as an "exclusive".

It was always going to be someone on the outs with Channel 9 and Cricket Australia, as if they'd go after Slater, Gilly etc

Pretty sure you could have narrowed it down to 'The Damned United' who hosted on SBS recently haha.

Doesn't he work on 3AW ?
If so I wonder whether ambulance chaser Mitchell will make any mention of it.No doubt Derryn Hinch will.

9 is trying to get mileage out of the story but most of it has already been revealed in the papers today.

Meh - I feel for his wife, if this has been going on for as long as it has. But I dont have any sympathy for him - you would think that if you are going to have an affair, you would have the 'birth control' thing sorted out.

They screwed themselves by plugging it to death on the show friday night but not actually airing the story until monday night.Should've run it friday and got the jump on Jones.

The Father of the Year award has been shown to be a massive joke.Three years after the dropkick won it he's been stripped of it because it was revealed he was bonking around.
