View Full Version : Worst cover
Now officially goes to t.A.t.u's slaying of 'The Smiths' "How soon is now".
For ****sake.
Overtakes the monstrosity of 'The Wallflowers' "Heroes" by David Bowie.

Oh say it isnt true. I havent heard it, but covering that song is blasphomy.
2 more shockers:
Paul Young's horrible version of Joy Division's Love Will tear Us Apart, and Micheal Bolton's version of Otis Redding's Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay.

Even though it wasnt released as a single or anything, nothing will ever be worse than Nikki Webster singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
How in the hell she ever got cast the part of Dorothy, I'll never know.

This along with The Screaming Jets doing(killing) "Shivers" should be brought in The Hague as crimes against humanity.

Gary Sweets rendition of 'Most People I Know'. Billy Thorpe must have spun in his grave.

Perhaps because Toto was already cast?

William Shatner's version of 'Lucy in the Sky' is THE all time worst cover song. The dead Beatles rolled in their graves, and the non-dead ones frantically searched for a grave to roll around in. It really is that bad. Try download a copy off the Net, you won't be dissapointed.

I'd dig myself a hole and roll around it in it if I had a classic song covered by that twonk. ;)

How has this thread gotten so far without mentioning Human Nature's cover of Eternal Flame? Or Westlife's version of Uptown Girl?
Or Tori Amos covering Smells Like Teen Spirit?

That cover to 'The Logical Song' that popped up over the summer gets my vote.

Woah. Man, that was bad. Was that for real? Did he do a whole album?

Oh yes, it's for real.
And yes, it's part of an album he released in 1968 called 'The Transformed Man' that was a mix of covers and Shakespeare spoken word. The covers include 'Mr. Tambourine Man' by Bob Dylan and 'It Was A Very Good Year' by Frank Sinatra.
It is truly god-awful, probably the most heinous sound to ever reach human ears. Do yourself a favour, get a hold of this one!

that damn cover from "Shrek"... originally the monkees...
Was it Pennywise that did a cover of Hotel California? I don't mind cross-genre covers, in fact they're usually quite interesting, but I thought this one sucked pretty bad.
Britney Spears covering Satisfaction was criminal. Great rock and roll boasting, reduced to mid-tempo bubble-gum pop.
The best cover (thinking of the Smiths) was a mob who called themselves The Ukranians (off-shoot of The Wedding Present I believe) who recorded Smiths covers in Ukranian. They sound AWESOME. Big Mouth Strikes Again in Ukranian is fantastic.

They've done quite a few covers, but can't say I've heard a Hotel California one.
Speaking of which, another one of their covers I quite like is Mrs. Robinson.

Any band (in particular Sixpence None The Richer) that has butchered The La's classic "There She Goes". Nobody sings it better than Lee Mavers did, I wish they'd all leave it alone!
The Beach Boys cover of 'Rock and Roll Music'.
Terrible. :o

I didn't hate it, but I found it odd that it got on a 'Best of the Beach Boys' CD released about a year ago.

It's been on a few, the reasoning apparently being that it was a Top 10 hit in 1976 so it's automatically included as one of their 'best known' hits.
The latest Beach Boys hits compliation 'Sounds Of Summer' has an awesome track list, yet at #19........ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC.

Remember the 'other' cover of 'Smells like teen spirit' by some bird called Abigail(she did KD Langs 'Constant Craving' too) the dance beat from it got turned backward and released a yr later as '18 strings' by Tinman.
27 replies and no mention of Kelly Friggin Osborne? That Papa don't screech cover was so bad that the engineers tried to drown out her vocals with the guitars. Sadly, it didn't work.
If you believe in Karma then that must have been Madonna's punishment for the way she massacred American Pie.

How about that "Last Kiss" (I think it was called) by Pearl Jam? It's the aural equivalent of fingernails down the blackboard (and I actually don't mind Pearl Jam).
In light of the mention of William Shatner's cover of "Lucy in the Sky...", you good people may also want to download a copy of either Bruce Willis' version of "Under the Boardwalk" or David Hasselhoff's "Hooked on a Feeling". Unbelievably bad...
I really didn't like that cover of "Blue Monday" that came out a couple of years ago. Just made me crave the original.
And Jo Beth singing that Pink song on the footy show!
I take it nobody saw Tim Freedman and Abi Tucker butcher the Chisel classic Flame Trees on The Panel not last Wednesday but the Wednesday before?...
Jimmy Barnes would've rolled in his vomit...
Wait, I'm now watching Avril Lavine(sp?) sing Fuel - Metallica. A bit wrong, and the audience of metal heads do not look impressed!
Can't believe that no one has mentioned the cover that All Saints did of 'Under the Bridge'.

No one should cover Nirvana cause they always **** it up! Case in point: The Offspring did a cover off Territorial Pis$ings.
Not good. Not good at all!
Lulu's cover of Man who sold the world anyone?...
