Please don't bother including draftees or trades, because it's pointless speculation.
Which 22, of the players on our list, would you like to see run out in Round 1?
B: H Slattery - Hurley - Fletcher
HB: Pears - Hooker - Hocking
C: Dempsey - Watson - Zaharakis
HF: Monfries - Gumbleton - Davey
F: Hardingham - Neagle - M Williams
R: Ryder - Stanton - Howlett
I: Hille - Colyer - Reimers - X
X = Welsh, Prismall, Winderlich, Lovett-Murray, Melksham, Jetta, Dyson, Lonergan, McVeigh.
Genuinely unsure as to who should take that last spot, but I feel that's a team built for the future.
The forwardline and defence in particular I'm very happy with.
We are trying to work out the team for next week and you are worrying about 2011.

Defence looks slow and lacking in speed IMO.

Wouldn't say it's any slower than Geelong's.

More often than not, at least:p

No Dempsey?
It's hard to tell at the moment with the rise of players like Hardingham, Jetta, Colyer and Melksham at the moment, along with the potential rise of T.Slattery.
You have to ask if you want to sacrifice stronger and more experienced players like Lovett-Murray, McVeigh, Welsh and Prismall, and if you want a mix of older players and younger players, which players do you drop to Bendigo (who are too good for Bendigo) and which young players do you try to give some experience to.
I still don't think Neagle has earned a place in the best 22 and I'd prefer Mark Williams to be a full forward if he's fit with Hurley and Gumbleton being around CHF. Although Williams is another question mark because who knows how he'll be next year.

Settle down folks. Hardingham 1 game 4 goals does not make a career.
Lets pick a side for 2011 once we get to see the guy a few more times hey. ;)

I think he's the perfect foil for a couple of leading targets on the full forward line. Having Williams and Neagle leading and blocking for each other and Hardingham to stand on the head of anyone if it comes long would be very potent if we ever got delivery that an u/16 side wouldn't be embarrassed by.

We shouldn't be getting excited about a guy that kicked four on debut? And looks like the perfect third tall?
If we shouldn't, then i'm sorry, cause I'M EXCITED!!

And I thought he was going to push Slattery out of the team.....
Isn't there another thread about this, or similar? Anyway...

We play our best when we run and carry so thats what i went for. Might need a more defensive minded player into the team though because it looks very offensive.

Re speed in defence:
I really, really don't feel that speed will ever be a problem for Hurley.
Plus Pears is very, very quick over the short course.
Fletcher.
Hocking is faster than ever (tho not a defender IMO - same with Dempsey, who is lubed lightning).
By today's standards Hooker isn't quick, but he's quick enough.
McVeigh's quick.
Slattery's really the only slow one, and that doesn't stop him from shutting down the likes of C. Rioli. (C. Rioli run. Run Rioli run!)
i.e. I like the Ben the Gooner's team's backline.

As much as I love Hardingham in the forward line, would love to give him a crack or two in the midfield and see what he can do there...

I am comfortable playing Pears, Fletcher, Hooker and Hurley in the backline. While all these players have some height, they can also all attack the ball and run. I can see such a backline rebounding the ball into our forward 50 with venom. Excited at the thought :)
Love the look of this team. Also agree Hardingham offers our forward line another dimension and all of a sudden it looks balanced for the first time all season. Also Reimers on a HFF is a must, he is a dangerous goalkicker who can punish opposition errors.
Realistically, that team should make the 8 easily. Our problem is depth.
Defence looks slow and lacking in speed IMO.
I would argue that Hurley, Hocking and Pears all have great break away speed. Have seen all 3 many a time streaming down the ground, kicking long into the forward line. I like that back line. Fletch and Slatts to take the smalls and the rest to take the rest. With the way the game is played we are more than often going to have a midfielder back there helping out, so whether that be the usual crew of Stants or Pris, gives us a good kick out of defence, or Demps will be back there to add some pace.
