View Full Version : Memories against the Saints.
Havn't had a heap many classic battles against them in recent years. In fact we didn't lsoe at all to them throughout the entire 1980's! But there have been a couple of good games in recent times. In '98 we won by 3 points after a late Boris snap put us up. Very good win at Waverley that one (followed by an even better close win the next week against the Blues!)
Also rememebr being in the driving rain at Optus in '95 watching us win by 116 points. That was fun! I also rememebr a good win in '92. Everyone thought we were crap, but every now and then we'd surprise a good team, and the Saints copped it in '92. Timmy's "debut" in 1993 out at Waverely against them was also a top win.
Was a nice win in round 2 1998 also, when we won by nearly 100 points and everyone thought they were going to beat us after their Grand Final the previous season. And of course who could forget the win at Moorabbin in 1991? Plugger was de-Plugged.
Remember that 95 game to well. Longy went mental.
Mark Fraser turning Austinn Jones into a hack in 1998 at the G..best game of Fraser's career.:D

How about the night the lights went out at Waverley. Was a bit poor that month so bused it down for the game instead of flying. Yeah good decision Robbie.

The day we toyed with St.Kilda at Princess park was the game after Anzac day, we had one of the shortest breaks in league history and still thumped them.collingwood lost their next game.
The night the lights went out, what a pearler it was on the Tuesday, up i went to Waverley to see the second chapter had a hot dog and spewed all the way home and took the next three days off work.

The thing I remember about that was Collingwood whingeing that their 5-day break wasn't enough. Whinge, whinge, whinge. Meanwhile, over the other side of the city, Essendon (on a 5 day break compared to the Saints's 8 days) won by 116 points. We got on with business. Collingwood sooked. Funny how no one mentioned that the 5-day break didn't affect us.

Then there were the days at Moorabbin, ground always packed, their stand used to rock and we would always thump them. Saw Carman go off his nut, saw The four Daniher`s make history, saw drunken men lying in their own urine, gotta miss those suburban ground days.

When i was a little bloke, the only 2 places i was truly afraid was Morrabin and Vic Park.
I'm a bit older and go back to the bad old days of the 70s when we got smashed by Mike Patterson's team in 78 at Moorabin. Still remember scary blokes like Muir, Sidebottom, Ditterich, O'Dea, Colling, etc. Poor Terry Cahill and a few of the other baby bombers mark 1!! Even our president called them "Animals". My how things changed with Merrett, Duckworth, Andrews, an older Neagle, etc. Then there was the Carman game.................What an experience going to Moorabin - nearly as enjoyable as Windy Hill!!
