But Essendon coach Matthew Knights said Welsh took a heavy hit during the Bendigo Bombers’ VFL game and could miss two or more weeks.
"He copped a really heavy knock in the ribs and didn’t complete the game so Andrew will miss this week, VFL and AFL and we’re not sure how long that will keep him out," Knights said.

I know this may make a few people on here happy.
I would never be happy because of somebody getting injured, but I will say it's a blessing in disguise, IMO.
I smell smoke. This is a very clever way of keeping him out of the team. Do not believe.

Yeah agreed on all fronts. :thumbsu:

Judd to have 30 odd now. I think this hurts a fair bit.

Judd won't get 30 touches. There's no way he'll be 100%.

From a bruised pectoral? Hardly going to impact his game.

This really ensure that Howlett and Lonergan get a chance to prove their worth in the midfield before next year. Welsh may require another re-invention next year to stay relevant.
I like Welsh as a leader, but I'm not sure he'll be a certain 22 starter next year. Hille VC in 2011.

He was in doubt at the start of the week, speaks volumes about his pain tolerance don't you think? Soft like the rest of the downhill skiing fab-4.

Champagne Comedy?
Looked sore when playing for Bendigo so no real surprise. Despite what some have said, I doubt Judd will be 100% and look forward to his clangers in Carlton's lolfest tomorrow night. Woosh can rest up, would prefer him to tag Dids next week.
Just on Welsh, I was listening to an interview with him on MMM last week, and he sounds eerily similar to Knights in the way he speaks.
A lot of cliches; broad, dancing around the issue team-orientated positive spin, and even just the way he actually pronounced words.
Unfortunately they didn't ask him to pronounce Melksham :p
No point to the story, just a little piece of trivia.

Dodoro sounds a lot like Knights, too, or vice versa.

Watch Judd get 30+ possessions and Carlton win the game, then 90% of people on here blame the loss on not having Welsh to tag Judd.
Bunch of hypocrites.

I guarantee I won't be saying that.
I also guarantee I won't be saying that.

Should clarify that the Welsh haters saying that would make them hypocrites.
No Welsh, means that it is imperative that we have coverage on the defensive side of stoppages to stop Judd dashing away from the clearance.
Welsh's omission is a worry.

FWIW Welsh has been pretty good this season and well above some peoples 'favourites', but haters gonna hate I guess.

He did actually take a hit in the VFL last week, took a while to get up but didn't look too bad. He went forward afterwards, not sure if that was because he was playing shite or because he was hurt.

He's done a few good shutdown jobs so I guess that somehow compensates for his kicking and handballing.
My my have the standards slipped at EFC.

And you're the best judge how? One moment we're top 4 material, next it's time to shut up shop and you abandon this place completely. TBH couldn't give a shit what you think.

We usually beat Carlton by going head to head and showing up their midfield for not working defensively. TBH, if we've got no-one who can tag Judd, I'd put our most offensive midfielders on him and try to run him the other way. I'm thinking Winderlich and Houli as I expect Carrazzo to go to Stanton (if that happens, Stanton should take the short **** deep forward).
Collingwood don't tag and it hasn't hurt them and I think we can put that sort of dominance over Carlton with Ryder/Hille dominating the ruck and giving our midfielders first opportunity.
The hard running from the clearances and backline is going to be super important for us to highlight our dominance over Carlton.

So long as we don't give them a quick start in either the 1st or 2nd quarters, I think we'll win comfortably after half time.
On paper, they don't worry me one bit.

He's a better player & kick than our #1 tagger from our last finals sides.... league standards have improved.
It's the instant look sideways for the short option that kills the team as much as the actual turnover when he tries.

I've got to agree with KS on this comment though DK. Standards and expectations - a drop in expectations being the most worrying sign.

Current situation would then be Sheedy's legacy...

I think you might be a little confused but I see who you're referring to - Peverill.
The guy who has 25 Brownlow votest compared to Welsh's 8. The guy who played an enormous part in our 2001 run.
Peverill in my eyes is and was a better player than Welsh.

I don't think you're wrong there Kelvin, Welsh is more naturally talented but Peverill certainly got more out of his talent.
Peverill was certainly far more consistent than Welsh.
edit: I couldn't give a rats tossbag about Brownlow votes. Besides, Welsh played his first 100 games from the backline.
Taggers are taggers because they have poor to average disposal.
The only tagger with decent disposal is Ling.
Some of you guys ask for too much !
