The same day my wife was attending a family funeral in Sydney, my stepmum passed away in Brisbane. Tough times indeed but part and parcel of life unfortunately.

Sort of brought me back to an old post about whether people would attend a family funeral on grand final day if their team was playing. I remember being non-committal at the time but reality soon finds your allegiance.

Sounds pretty awful. I know what you mean by family v footy taking you by surprise. My Dad almost died late last year and the flag sort of seemed pretty meaningless in comparison - thankfully he's pulled through well so I can get back to the relatively trival task of exercising bragging rights!
