He has said before that if he couldn't get the senior job, he'd want the same role Laidley has at Port... in mentoring the other coaches/assistants.

I do however, wonder if he'd work under Knights.

Mistake letting Knighta pick his own assistant coaches when he won the job,considering Knighta is inexperienced as a coach.it will be great for Knighta to be surrounded with more senior established assistant coaches would love to have Choco on board.

I couldn't imagine Williams working as an assistant anywhere let alone under a type like Knights. Williams would be a better option than Knights in the snr gig IMO.

Dons talk with Choco about coaching position

ESSENDON announced on Wednesday night that it has spoken to former Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams about whether he would be available to fill either of the coaching positions made vacant by Scott Camporeale and Ashley Prescott leaving the club at season's end.

Essendon coach Matthew Knights was part of the meeting, but has been under immense pressure this season with the Bombers in 12th position on the ladder after making the finals last year.

“We knew Mark was in Melbourne today so Matthew (Knights) and I took the opportunity to catch up and see where he was at in terms of his career,” Hamilton said.

I agree with this but think Knights doesnt have much choice in the matter. He chose his Assistants last time and it turned out to be a f*ck up. The Board will have a say in the selection of the new Assistants.

If we are going shithouse in the first 8-10 rounds next year it will end up being academic because Knights will get the flick anyway.
