I was reading a few posts on the main board, regarding peoples thoughts on John Elliott.
Do you guys think he is a positive or negative person for Carlton?

My views on Elliot are very clear. He's now entering the realm of self-parody - where the real guy is actually the anachronistic , bombastic big noter that is constantly being portrayed. His efforts with Jim Stynes on the ABC last weekend were just ordinary.
He seems to act like he can get away with anything because he's rich and important, so we'll all just say' ..oh that's Jack, what a character '. This guy was once actually being touted as a future PM and I know that, in the 80's, he'd 'hold court' at the footy and could be approached thru' trusted toadies to gain an audience, so that you could become part of the 'magic circle'. He doesn't seem to have any friends that can tell him to lose the act he has. Someone said that '.. some of the things he says are quite astute' Why aren't ALL the things he says quite astute.
And then there's the unacceptable behavior and the ******** defence of 'I was too drunk to remember'. Our club must rise above all this crappy behavior.
I think he really has held us back - compare him with the Geelong guy, who comes over as a together and considered spokesperson.
Elliot belongs to another era - it was fun but now it's mutton dressed as lamb. I can't believe that others more suitable don't aspire to the role.

It's just a shame that there isn't any free trading in the AFL because Elliot would have been more successful. He may open is mouth sometimes when not wanted. But on a whole i think he has done alot for this club.He has developed optus oval and shown to everyone that Carlton FC won't be walked all over. The best thing about him is his passion towards the club.He won't settle for nothing more then the best and his attitude shows through the rest of the team.At this stage i can't think of anyone better to lead the club.

You make a good point BlueBlood.
Heaps of people bag him, but really, who else is there to become the President of carlton?

Agreed Meg, but nobody is beyond reproach. If he was a player, the club would reprimand him for being undisciplined. He doesn't have to behave as he does. He just doesn't particularly care. Even the Carlton players distance themselves from his comments or worse, publicly comment that they wish he wouldn't comment. Now how arrogant is he to believe that he doesn't have to listen to voices within his own club? He does NOT own the Blues. He is there to lead us on the right path for the future, not to make enemies and enforce stereotypes. He is living in the past and needs to evolve.

John Elliot is letting Carlton down on a regular basis, he arms the opposing team with plenty of ammo with his stupid drunken outbursts. As a carlton supporter I say we need a new president with more brains who is more of the quiet achiever type.
Maybe Mike Fitzpatrick would be a better choice.
