As a 199cm centre?? Would prefer to see him in the ruck or CHB.

Hawks keeping the Pies goalless in the 2nd quarter dispite them having the wind. Have kicked 2 themselves and are up by 38 points. (I think listening to the stream a bit haphazzedly)
Hawks 9.6 (60)
Pies 2.4 (16)
The commentators are talking about the Fat lady arriving and are having a ball with Luke "Don't Bring me down" Burst (for those not aware of this reference have a listen to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RJPaj97H24 around the 1:13 mark).

2 goals to J-Lisle, singles everywhere else
Wobblers reduced the margin to 31 points half way through but BHH steadied. On the radio, seemed scrappy. Sheila, Moss, Don't Bring Me Down Bruest!, Katey, Pedo, Gibson sounded useful.

All over. 30-point win. McCarthey for Wobblers and J-Lisle kicked three. Second half sounded ugly, disappointed I only picked up the feed after half-time :(
Sheila, Moss, Pedo sounded best for me.
Didn't hear any Tuck? Did he not play?
Did Hawks win the fight in stands? There's that ugly Vic Park and disappointed Wobblers fans. Doesn't sound like they have too much depth for finals.

Did the guys who were dropped from the ones play at all? If so, it's abit disapointing not to see any mention of Taylor, Ladson, Morton, Moss and Suckling in the best players.
Would also be interested to hear if Campbell and Lowden played and how they went if anyone would be so kind!

Collingwood vs. Box Hill Hawks Saturday 14th August 2010
Well what an adventure it was today getting out to Victoria Park. The good thing the weather stayed fine because i got off at Collingwood instead of Victoria Park DUH!. So I ended up walking to the ground. The Sun was shining but there was a big breeze blowing mostly across towards me.
Collingwood were in the eight after a great start to the season but had lost 3 in a row. Box hill of course was on a 6 game winning streak. Ironically their last loss came against Collingwood where Josh Fraser dominated and Jack Anthony who also starred down back at box hill city oval. Box Hill would be keen to atone and show how much they have improved over the season.
How things have changed. Fraser was playing on Renton and absolutely dominated the young fella.. Today he had to deal with Taylor, Robbie Campbell and Young Lowden. It was interesting to see all of them line up on the ground in the 1st quarter. The game started with some great intensity and there was some great tackling all over the ground. Muston lined as a forward tag on Jack Anthony the last time these two teams met. He did play in defence on Lisle. Big Lowden and Bobby both played forward.
I didn’t see Tuck out there but did see moss and ladson but no morton who was obviously the emergency for tomorrow. Shiels, Stokes , Savage and JKT in and around the ball. Box Hill played the conditions better than their opponents and were extremely well drilled out of defence. The run out of defense of Muston Kiel and Pederson ably assisted by our midfield was poetry in motion. Shiels started and had a lot of the ball along with JKT, Punky(Breust), Savage, Muston Kiel and Gibson. Box Hill were up 4 goals to 2 at qtr time.
The second qtr was the best I have seen Box Hill play all year. They played champagne football. They ran and carried with great inside mids in shiels, suckling, moss, stokes and Gibson and great outside runners in savage, JKT and young punky. They also had great running transitions out of the defence thanks to kiel, Ladson, Muston, Schoenmakers and Pederson and in some instances Lisle who played loose man again. We cut Collingwood to ribbons. Our backline was really solid with Pederson and Schoenmakers really controlling it back there. It was really great to watch our ferocious attack on the ball and ball carrier and Collingwood just had no answer. At the end of half t was 9 goals to 2 and box hill had the game in their keeping . There was still a half to play
I didn’t see Stokes on the ground in the 3rd qtr and didn’t see him for the rest of the game. Box hill seemed to be a man down. Collingwood come out with a lot more intensity and they kicked the first couple for the qtr. Box hill lifted Shiels who had a cracking first half continued to play well and along with Gibson, JKT and moss Jackson and suckling at the end of 3rd box hill up 11 goals to 5.
The last qtr seemed like Box hill going through the motions or that they were tired from all that hard running they had done in the first 3. They were also down a rotation because stokes seemed to be injured. Collingwood ran the game out well and had a lot of chances in the last but with the wind they couldn’t capitalise. Box hill did enough to keep them at bay and ran out comfortable 5 goal winners. Shiels once again was outstanding that qtr along with Gibson and Jackson.
In summary this game was the best I have seen young shiels play. He really was great. I have mentioned about him not being a natural ball getter before. Well he sure showed me. He had leather poisoning. The break that he had in the week we played against Frankston seems to have done him a world of good. He is in outstanding form. Today he made me stand up and take notice. The boy looks to be ready for another AFL tilt.
Our rucks and Taylor again had a good game. His taps to advantage to shiels and moss and then suckling were very good. Young Lowden took a while to get going I think he was a bit out of touch being rested last week. Punky had a great first half. At which point he then received a hard tag like and was quieter in the second half. Milne was serviceable without really shining. Suckling and ladson likewise.
Muston hmmm well he did a great job on jack Anthony and also provided run out of the backlin when Jack was shifted forward. I am just waiting for Muston to finish off his good work further up field he gets the ball in great positions but and this is recently in front of gaol he is just spraying them. He also dropped another sitter mark today on the wing. He seems to have one of those every week. I think if he could polish these parts of his game he could really push to play finals this year.
Great win by Box hill they stay 5th with the final game next week vs. Williamstown next week. I hope to see you all down at box hill remember the change in times.

Morton didn't play
Taylor was the best big man on the ground when he was in the ruck not so good when he went forward. Once again he dominted the taps to advantage.
Moss got plenty of the bal and had a great second qtr faded from the game late.
Suckling had some patches where he was integral to box hills running game but again faded in the last half.
Robbie was competitive but has lost a bit of weight so gets pushed out rucking contests but once again he took some great and gutsy contested marks. He hasn't lost any of his ability at ground level
Lowden was slow to start seemed a bit out of touch with being rested last week. He worked his way into the game. His slight frame means that he gets pushed out of the ruch contests more often than not. But his contests aroung the ground were good serviceable without being outstanding.

Great report fellas
Stokes did his hammy early in the 3rd Q thus reducing bench changes.
Great games from Shiels, Savage, Lisle in very blusterly conditions.

Word I've heard is that Shiels got close to 40 possessions for the game! Must have played a top notch game. Good for him - he has bucketloads of talent and it was an excellent scout by the Hawks to pick him up so early.

Here are my thoughts on the listed players and some notable mentions.
Savage: Played okay, good around the stoppages. He's a bit hungry around goals and tends to go himself rather than look to pass to a teammate whose in a better position. Solid.
Muston: Good game from him. He needs to work on his dispoasl efficiency as sometimes it can be extremely poor. Although the conditions did not help yesterday.
Breust: Good first half, got tagged in the second so was a bit quieter. Has a good eye for goal but also is a bit hungry. Had a chance to pass to a teammate in the goalsquare but went for an opposite foot snap shot that didnt come off.
Lisle: Got three goals in a half of football playing up forward, and in the other half was thrown into loose man in defence. Played well and deserved his 5th best on.
Kayler Thompson: Got a stack of handball recieves throughout the day and used the ball well. Deserves another year on the list.
Schoenmakers: Did well in defence. Needs to improve his disposal off half back but is starting to get the knack of defending. Will be a very good player in the years to come.
Moss: Quiet first half but an excellent second half. Gets a lot of touches at this level of football and always knows where to be. I think he deserves another year on the list.
Ladson: Solid throughout the day. Wasn't a class above by any means but did well. Scored a nice set shot into the breeze.
Shiels: 43 touches says it all really. BOG by a mile. :thumbsu:
Suckling: Didn't have any real influence on the game. Thought he could have been better considering he had a point to prove after being dropped. Average.
Taylor: Did well inthe ruck and also took a few key marks around the ground, something which his game has lacked in previous weeks. Deserves another look in for the senior squad before finals.
Stokes: Didn't do much before he got injured in the 3rd quarter and we didn't see him again. Quiet day, think he will be gone by the end of the year.
Milne: Good in defence off half back.
Campbell: Played ruck and in defence. Looks a lot leaner so didnt do al that well in the ruck. Thought he was good in defence though, keeping his opponents Fraser/Wood quiet.
Lowden: Started off slow but worked his way into the game. Rotated between ruck and chf. Took some nice grabs at chf. Also spoiled well when needed to. Looked sore in his groins. Believe he will play development squad next week

Greatly appreciate the writeup BlackByrd.
Am glad to hear that we have a couple of players who are a bit hungry around the goals in Sav and Bruest as we have too many blokes in the seniors scared to have a shot at goal.
Sounds like our next wave of hard runners are starting to find some form in Shiels and Sav. They are the key to our list at the moment as there is really no-one pushing Bateman, Youngy etc at the moment.
How was Riley Milne looking form-wise? Very much an unassuming type and pretty easy to miss during games but goes about his business in a calculated way. Hope to see him in the Hawthorn side before the season is out.

Great news re growler, well done!
Would like to see him play in the seniors next week, we are definately lacking a forward with lisle playing back for half a game.
The other reason is that it seems that it seems the writing is on the wall, a few good VFL games for Growler and his trade value may improve (don't laugh!!), I do believe other clubs will look at him, especially after 5 clubs chased him last year.
I was talking to another poster today, and we believe we are down on KPP to back up buddy and rough, and we may persist with Growler one more year (one year contract).

Made the trip from the nations glorious capital to see this game. Was pleasantly surprised at how good the Box Hilll side was. Best BH side I have seen since the early 00's. Very skilful given the conditions.
Liked the look of Lisle. Disappointed to see young Hoegle go down. I claimed him at a pre-season game out at Whitten Oval and he hasn't let me down this season. Might be a rookie chance.
Liked Jackson's game as well. I think I was sitting in front of the family. They got very excited when he got ball, which was fairly often.
First (and hopefully only time to Vic Park). Can't believe they played AFL there not that long ago. Great for VFL footy though.
I didn't see any fight and I was in the grandstand right behind the i/c in the front row. Would have been right in front of me.
