No Kitchen Stadium, dubbed voices or Chairman Kaga and his splendid outfits means it cannot be Iron Chef

Pffft... there is only one Iron Chef.
The American version was an abortion of a show, and given our track record of ripoffs (Survivor, Top Gear, etc) it will be worse.

http://www.twobitnews.com/files/images/articles/ironmans/ironmans6a.jpg I agree and today's special ingredient in Aussie Iron Chef is....CRAP!
it's not Iron Chef Australia unless there is a BBQ in the Kitchen Stadium

This!!!!!
I'll put money on it that if it is not canned in the first 2-3 weeks they will bring out one of the real iron chef's.

This idea would work if it wasn't done by Channel Seven.

Probably but with Seven doing it, its no chance.
Cmon guys and girls. Give it a crack !!
I am an original Iron Chef Fan.......the American version won me over because i could understand the ****ing lingo with the Japs.
An Aussie version, in an Aussie Kitchen Stadium, with Aussie Chefs would be ****ing awseome.
Gotta compete with MasterChef, surely ?
Some of those Iron Chefs will be pumped and ready to show their wares ?? :D

This will actually be embarrassing. The American one is horrible. Iron Chef is so awesome because of the dubbing and because of the host. This Australian version just wont be the same at all!
Could be decent, the chef's aren't exactly randoms most people haven't heard of but won't have an inch on the original; the voice overs, chairman Kaga is irreplaceable and I highly doubt 7 will be willing to blow thousands of dollars on special ingredients like they did in the original - can't imagine how much they spent on ingredients since most eps contained foie gras and then the swallows nest battle which would gave cost a small fortune.
On a side note I met Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai earlier this year, very nice and humble bloke; nothing like a Gordon Ramsey figure.

I remember an episode where the special ingredient were Truffles. There was literally an entire banquet of truffles just sitting there. Can't even imagine how much money that would've cost! I remember in Masterchef, in their Paris (I think?) challenge they had to use truffles. They had the tiniest amount of truffle that could probably fit in a hand. Compare that to Iron Chef
About $8,000,000 was spent on the ingredients for the show.
IMDB
No chance 7 will spend that much on ingredients.

The show is 'based' on the American not the Japanese version of the show.
First of 6 episodes was or is being filmed tonight.
If you would like a ticket to watch this being filmed, PM me. I have 4 available for Friday 10 September. Filming at the Docklands studios (not far from Eithad and Channel 7) Have to be at the studio by around 3pm although that could be pushed back to 4pm.

... will be shit.
It just stinks of an ill-conceived "master chef worked so everything cookery-related will be excellent" garbage. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd::mad:
Will not watch.

Grant Denyer to host new cooking show Iron Chef
DESPITE having no interest in food, Channel 7 stablemate Grant Denyer will be served up as the host for Iron Chef Australia.
The Sunrise weather presenter admits to knowing "absolutely nothing" about food, but said he was the network's best pick of the bunch.

And thus it goes from practically unwatchable to completely unwatchable.
Bugger me why not recruit someone with some food nous FFS... unless Seven execs are expecting it to bomb like the rest of us.

Well, that might be the case, but the Age keeps referring to the Japanese original version, not the US version.
Can't believe Seven gave Denyer the job of hosting it. What a joke. :o

It is the American version. Even have U.S. executives overseeing the whole thing.
Denyer as host is an excellent. Richard Cornish provides the expert commentary as to what the Chefs are doing and how they are doing it.
Denyer's role is just the link man, introducing the competitors, the competitions and the judges judging. A role quite frankly that I believe he is very good at.

Personally, I reckon the Japanese original version will have a much higher profile in Australia than either US version, by dint of the fact that the Japanese version has consistently been screened on FTA television, whereas (AFAIK) the US versions have only been on pay-tv.
The lazy journos will draw the inevitable comparison between the Australian version and the Japanese version and the Australian version will suffer badly.

Anyone catch it? I didn't mind it to be honest. Liked the way they didn't drag everything out like Masterchef.

Absolutely woefull - way too manic & frenzied. Won't be tuning in again thats for sure.
Passable. That chairman needs a good smack in the head though

Way too manic and frenzied? Isn't that the reason why Japanese Iron Chef was excellent?

It was alright. Totally think the Japanese guy is pointless though?? Why have him there for a total of 1.5 scenes? The female judge comes across as an absolute bitch.

The two commentators totally ruined the show for me, couldn't stand them at all and the fact they do a recap of the entire show after every ad break doesn't help either.

I enjoyed the show.
The challenger sure served up a storm. Cooking a Thai Red Curry as one of four dishes with only an hour to prepare and serve was impressive.
His use of balloons to prepare his dessert was a total surprise.
The plates including the melted grange bottles was a great presentation along with their story provided even greater interest in his delivery of each different meal.
Obviously we cannot compare the taste of the finished products but Chef Matt Stone really made Iron Chef Neil Perry look staid and conservative.
Re the commentator and host. I thought their interaction with both chefs was a positive. Would we have learned one of the sous chefs was called 'boofhead'? To my mind Grant Denyer kept in light and entertaining rather than all serious and stodgy.
A further positive Richard Cornish describing the different ingredients such as the eggs, not just as any old eggs as they appeared to me on the TV but as what they actually where 'duck eggs'. Without that comment to my untrained eye the difference would have been missed.
Overall not a bad hours entertainment.

Shine Australia the producers of the show bought the American version of the show hence the Chairman was from the US show.

Iron Chef is so good because it is Japanese.
I turned on the last 5 minutes - Grant Denyer. Enough said.
Channel 7 should have just bought the rights to the original Japanese version.
As others have said:
- Chairman Kaga
- No dubbed voices
- No "clueless" Japanese actresses tasting food
- No punchy Japanese delivery of voices
- No ultra cool looking Iron Chefs
Somethings should just be left alone... it is like a Westernised Martial Art film trying to match original Asian Martial Art films (Matrix and Kill Bill don't count).
Grant Denyer... actually ANY channel 7 host (except O'Keefe)= vomit.

They should have brought out Chairman Kaga to bite the capsicum at the beginning. I must admit I was presently surprised. Lets Face it Perry and Guy Grossi are our Iron Chefs. Denyer was the weak link and Larissa Dubecki is as humourless as her columns suggest
