Brisbane Lions Director David Liddy has announced that he will retire from the Club Board prior to their 2010 Annual General Meeting after almost seven years of service.
Mr Liddy was appointed to fill a casual vacancy on the Lions Board in October 2003, was later elected by the members in February 2004 and successfully stood for re-election in December 2005

Not exactly Football Department, but interesting news.
Bank of Queensland have been good to the Lions and I have no doubt David Liddy is the reason for it. Thanks for your service.
That said... we have a vacancy finally... very interesting.
Paging David Devine... your footy club needs you.

Brisbane Lions chief Tony Kelly backs Michael Voss, Brendan Fevola despite 15-week freefall (http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl/brisbane-lions-chief-tony-kelly-backs-michael-voss-brendan-fevola-despite-15-week-freefall/story-e6frepkx-1225902314698)
"It's been a tough year," Kelly said. "Our crowds are up, but we've played nine at home, our membership is up, but nowhere to the level of some of the other clubs. Our sponsorship is quite strong, but it's been difficult in the corporate area with boxes, suites and hospitality. They haven't returned in the pre-GFC numbers.
"Bottom line, we'll make a loss, but far too early to call." The Lions hope to come in under the $1m mark.
(Kelly), up for re-election this year, said his own future was clouded.
"I've been on the board 12 years, five as deputy and five as chairman. I'll sit down at the end of the season and talk to my family, my wife and my three beautiful teenage daughters, and make a decision," he said.
Is that a loss in 4 consecutive years now?

There is no doubt Kelly leaves at a turbulent time in the club's history. The team stunk this year and the club is facing a potential loss of $2 million. But he has also instigated some initiatives that could signal the dawn of the next golden era. The development of a major social club and gaming venue at Springwood is well under way, and that will deliver a substantial non-football income stream.
And the introduction of a provision in the constitution that allows the appointment of experts from the business and football communities to directorships will ensure a vibrant and aggressive new-age board steers the Lions into the new decade. But his bravest decision to date was calling for a major review of the club's dysfunctional football department and accepting that an independent figure should steer it.

BREAKING NEWS... well not quite.
But for the record anyway:
Lions CEO steps down (http://www.lions.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/5085/newsid/104301/default.aspx)
3:45 PM Wed 20 Oct, 2010
Mr Bowers met with the Board yesterday and both parties agreed to an arrangement that would see him depart the role of Club CEO, a position he has held for the past nine seasons.
Mr Johnson said former Richmond Football Club CEO Steven Wright, who has been running a sports consultancy company in Queensland, had accepted the Board's offer to take on the role as Interim CEO until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Link (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/bowers-latest-in-long-line-of-lions-departures-20101020-16u8w.html)
Bowers moved out of his office yesterday, but president Angus Johnson denied an internal review had recommended his sacking after nine years in the job, or that Bowers' departure had been influenced by the AFL.
Link (http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl/brisbane-lions-ceo-michael-bowers-to-quit-the-club/story-e6frepex-1225941267549)
Bowers, who nominated the 2003 flag as the highlight of his tenure, has already cleaned out his desk and put on a brave face, saying the decision was in the club's best interests."The board and I sat down together and we reached an agreement about the separation so I think once a decision is made to move on, it's important that you do move on," he said. "The last thing you want is someone who is not part of the future.
"We were able to have a grown-up conversation. It was a good conversation because everyone has got to have the club's best interests at heart. You put personal issues aside."

THE increasingly shambolic off-season at Brisbane has continued, with CEO Michael Bowers resigning after nine years in charge.
With players leaving in droves, the club’s salary cap issues almost forcing more out, and star forward Brendan Fevola disenchanted after his treatment over indecent exposure allegations, Bowers’ departure completes a miserable early summer.

Serafini has decided against seeking re-election for his position at next month's annual general meeting after 14 years as a club director.

And from the Lions site (http://www.lions.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/5085/newsid/105714/default.aspx):
"I have personally enjoyed a long association with the Club since I began as a player in 1977 and have loved every minute of it. The hat-trick of premierships from 2001-2003 was just unbelievable!"
"Also, having been able to represent the old 'Royboys' on the field and more recently contributing towards the merged Brisbane Lions has been particularly satisfying," he said.
"I will continue to strongly support the Lions and intend to remain involved with the Club in some capacity in Victoria."
and:
Meanwhile, Lenard Poulter nominated for a position on the Board of Directors and was duly appointed to fill the vacancy in accordance with the Club's Constitution.
"It's a wonderful coup for this Club to have someone as highly respected and successful in the business world as Len Poulter join our Board of Directors," Mr Johnson said.
Poulter is the Founding Director of award-winning food retail franchise Lenard's which has operated successfully in Brisbane since 1987.
He has spent more than 40 years in the food industry and is one of Australia's most experienced specialty retailers.

The Brisbane Lions AFC today began a comprehensive search to find a new Chief Executive Officer through leading Queensland recruitment agency Davidson Recruitment.
Lions Chairman Angus Johnson said the appointment of a new CEO would complete an active off-field recruitment period for the Club.

Ben Buckley – might he be a possible target if after the non-2022 get?
Buckley left a GM role with the AFL to take up the CEO role with Football Federation Australia in Nov 2006 – IMO he’d be good get if the salary was on par with what Bowers was receiving.
Too expensive I am thinking by several orders of magnitude.

I think he'd be out of reach even for the AFL now. He's had experience in the World Game. He's opportunities and value although reduced as a result of the unsuccessful bid is still significant elsewhere. He's had experience in an industry where he can go to any part of the world and earn far more than any sporting organisation can pay in Australia. Also he's had grounding under Lowe, so that alone would be a ticket to anything. Can you imagine he's value if Australia was successful?
