Renewing and upgrading.

Not one to walk away. This is when a club needs it members the most

29 Aug 2010, 11:59
The last thing we can afford is for people to not renew membership. Unfortunately I think this is exactly what will happen.

Crowd was pretty dismal last night too. Surely the board is noticing and will act soon. Any more of this and we may well lose relevancy.

But to any dope who doesn't renew their membership: find some other way to vent your anger.. your club needs you now more than ever. Grow a heart and stick with the club, it is bigger than one dud coach!

This year was my first year as a member with a 11 game bronze membership. Was only able to get to 4 games or so though.

I will definitely be renewing if we continue to offer a 3 game membership, if not I will need to consider it.

OzBomber
29 Aug 2010, 13:47
Yes, but they need to allow general admission on the top level. We don't get big enough crowds to have reserved seating. And I don't like sitting on the bottom level. Last night I was able to rock up 25 minutes before the start of the game and get a front row seat on the half forward flank. Essendon games they'll give me a seat right up the top even though there are stacks of spare seats (I end up just moving anyway, but it's still a pain).

I went to every game this season for the first time ever, I'll do my best to do it again next season.

Go Bombers.

29 Aug 2010, 14:27
i hope to not be viewed as an outsider derailing a thread, however i popped into to the essendon board to see what people are thinking of knights at the moment. my question was going to be about memberships.

as a member of a club, you essentially own the club. yet you get such little influence in the club. you get so little say in how it's run.

but you can send a message by not renewing your membership. and if 5000 members don't sign up next year if knights is still coach, does that not send a message?

it was a very different scenario with west coast a few years ago (and i'm only an interstate member, so i barely count as a member anyway) - but i was so disgusted when the breadth of our drug problem came to light i didn't renew my membership in 2008.

would anyone at the club have noticed? probably not. but surely you need to feel as though you're doing something.

you could argue that if you aren't part of the solution then you're part of the problem.

Well then you sir, are a ****head

Anyway we can find out who the others are that are voting no?

Whilst I personally would not base my membership on whether Knights is there or not I think it is a perfectly legitimate form of protest. I would much rather people not renewing then forming the "save sheedy" type groups that we saw last time. That has a more destabilizing impact on the club. Supporters want to have a voice and not renewing is probably the strongest one.

Maybe you should go to the footy and seek out all your fellow Essendon supporters who aren't loyal enough and banish them from the club.

You should be able to start a small band of die hards which will turn us into North Melbourne.

This thing is too big for you to understand. The world is a strange place made up of weird and wonderful people. Please respect everyones opinions and choices they make in life.

Yours Sincerely,

Why does everyone here get so worked up about people not renewing their membership? It's probably the most effective way of getting the club to make the changes that they want and would be a main reason why the club has decided to sack Knights. You don't need a plastic card to show that you support the club.

The club decided to cut the Bomber mag back to two 84 page editions per year. One came out prior to the start of the year and the other one will be released post-season, probably around mid-to-late November.

Why? Whilst I personally will renew based on my cirucmstances and Knights being there or coach, players etc. will have no bearing on this people are allowed not to renew as a form of protest- I would much rather 4000 people not renewing then 4 save sheedy type groups created. Not renewing is the strongest form of protest- and whilst I doubt I would personally ever do it people are still perfectly entitled to it.

What a load of shit. Why the **** would we want a club that is run by a bunch of pissed off supporters, or so heavily influenced by them? That automatically means instability, a board unable to do its job, and a failing club.

The sacking of Knights is one step in that direction for me. Any further would mean the club would lose a great deal of integrity, as would the supposed supporters who would place so much pressure on the club, pushing to the point of financial destruction, to adhere to its basic and frequently unreasonable desires.

Let the board do their ****ing job, and have confidence that they will. You should be doing your job as a supporter and supporting for ****ssakes.

Jesus Christ some Essendon 'supporters' piss me off.

I hope you are made of money! I have been an Essendon member with MCC package for Etihad since it opened with level 2 seats on the wing. Never changed, only minimal increase in price. Last year with 7 home games my seat was $210.

I got a letter this week from the club stating that as my seat is in the 'High Mark' area I will therfore have to pay 'High Mark' prices next year. New membership price of $440 - an increase iof over 100% in one year.

No thanks, I will stick to the MCG games from now on.

Godzke
28 Sep 2010, 13:27
Yeah I'll wait till the pricing is released before making any judgements, but I remember a lot of threads on here roasting the EFC marketing department at the start of the year for the deals they were putting out.

All to save the membership dept a few hours of work.
Bit tricky that some silver members like to have their seats on lev 3; some bronze like them on lev 1 and so on.
So it's silver lev 1, high mark lev 2, bronze lev 3 AND YOU'LL TAKE WHAT YOU'RE GIVEN.

They've lost me, and I know about a dozen in the same boat and another dozen thinking of doing the same.
I know they scan these boards, I can't let you people know just how much you're pissing a lot of members off by this crap.

Fair enough. I hate going to the footy myself too. Fortunately atm I have too many footy friends for my own good. You should go and stand in standing room with the grog squad. You won't be alone. I can't stand there anymore as I have a bad back and can't stand for a whole match but it is great fun and some good people to meet.

I have to say but pretty poor effort of your friends to not go again after the 99 prelim final. They missed out on our greatest season. Oh well, their loss.

Wanted to renew straight after the press conference yesterday, but again the system's not up yet. :thumbsd:

Hi all.
I'll becoming a member in my early 40's for the first time this year.
Being involved in country footy and until now financially a stretch has stopped me in the past.
We are thinking of taking out a High Mark family even though our kids are only two. Couple of questions and please excuse my ignorance

1/ What is the situation at Etihad if the member base say swelled to 52,000 plus.(possible!!??) Will it make it hard to reserve tickets etc?

2/ Is the membership transferable for at least one member on the home games (not finals)??..Not always easy to get eveyone down to Melb.

3/ Not too worried by the cost, see it more as making up for years of non membership but are there better options for us (besides country mship)
Say silver or bronze with a dick reynolds thrown in..

Thanks for any help given as i know i could ring the club but wanted a bit of a collective view first

Godzke
29 Sep 2010, 22:16
I have similar queries duckdog. In relation to the first point, I think the fact that all our games at Etihad are already fully ticketed implies it will become very difficult to reserve tickets if the membership base swells to 50,000+.

OzBomber
29 Sep 2010, 23:47
****, so that means for Freo matches we'll still have to book reserve seats when there is only 30k there?

Slattery_20
30 Sep 2010, 09:10
Theoretically, you already do.

IMHO the memberships without a reserved seat just aren't worthwhile at all. Lining up for 10 minutes, (or going online and paying a ****ing booking fee!) sucks the big one.
Walk up, scan, walk to seat = way to do it. Not *that* much more expensive.

duckdog, pretty sure all high-mark packages come with a reserved seat. Which is yours and yours alone for all home games.
