Who is the best ODI batter Hayden or Gilchrist? I have always been a fan of Hayden. So he would get my vote even if opposed to Bradman (god love you Bradman).

What do you guys reckon?

Geez! Hayden would be my favourite too, but there's no way I'd choose him over Bradman.

But anyway, I'd pick Gilly over Hayden in the one day game. Gilly can destroy a team in 10 overs when he's on song. But in tests? Hayden easily for me.

Didn't really mean that i would pick him over Bradman!! What ws Bradmans av. 99 or something and whats Haydens about 47?

I think Gilchrist is better, but only just.

I reckon a year ago I would've said Gilly, but Haydos has been so solid this year in every form of the game. Gilly still has the potential to make attacks look ****weak, but he's been a bit hit & miss lately.

So Hayden for me more solid.

Hayden in ODI's, Gilchrist in Tests.

Hayden.

Gilchrist is awesome but lacks consistency, the Andrew McLeod of cricket, if he is on he will win you the match almost single handedly.

Hayden for me - just - I agree that Gilly's consistency is the issue in this vote.

I'm just glad we have such two awesome players in our side!

Gilly by a mile in both forms of the game haydos had 1 real good year but since then hes been very inconsistent in my opinion.

Bradman never proved himself at ODI level ;)

Hayden easily on both fronts.

Gilchrist doesn't face a new ball with fresh fast bowlers in a test match and his average in ODI and Test cricket has been heading South for 2 years straight.

I actually prefer Gilchrist in test matches. A bit hit and miss in ODI but still can score very quickly and get the score on the board so players like Bevan and Martyn can then play safe and push ones and twos.
It's a tough choice. I chose Hayden but now think I probably should choose Gilly as he is of a rare breed that can destroy bowling attacks. In full flight there is no other player like him. Perhaps Lara at his best 7 or 8 years ago.

i'd say gilchrist.

i think hayden should get rid of that charge - the one where creeps up and only takes one or two small steps forward - sure he has the power to back it up, but it's a bit hit or miss...

I was thinking exactly the same thing. :)

Matthew Hayden is a much better opening batsman and in time will have a one-day record which is a true reflection of his class. Adam Gilchrist has been fantastic for us over the past few years, taking on the bowlers in the first 15 overs and getting us off to a flying start.

I prefer Gilly in both forms of the game.

When Gilly gets in that frame of mind, he is unstoppable.

Hayden as an opener, Gilly down the order. In the late-over happy hour, Gilly would be sensational.
I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Langer get a go in a one-dayer. Hayden and Langer have a record of not just having a big average for opening partnerships but getting the runs quickly, and that could be worth a shot at one-day cricket.
