I thought I read somewhere where Bomber had no desire to coach Essendon?
He's no longer Essendon, he's Geelong.
I'd love him to coach Essendon but he will never be Essendon coach, neither will James Hird.

That's not news. That's free advertising.
FWIW last time around Neale Daniher was unbackable favourite before the bookies shut up shop. He didn't make the last 3.
I reckon people have thrown their money away if they think Thompson will be our next coach. My take on it is:
Bomber is contracted next season
Bomber has said he is not interested in the job.
I doubt he'd talk to anyone about this as long as Geelong are alive in the finals.
I think the club would want to be well down the process of deciding their new coach prior to Sept 25, not meeting with a candidate for the first time.
Having said all that, if we got him and he had time to assess the list etc prior to trade week I would not be against such a move.

With the leaks on our board, it wouldnt suprise me, if the Knights decisions came about as the football club had been in discussion with bomber behind the scenes.
I would be stoked if we got him, for there to be a plunge there has to be some inside knowledge flying around. i.e Danny Green fight the other month.
So I wouldnt be suprised if there is substance, even if only a little.
Bomber is a Premiership Captain at Essendon, three time premiership player, He will always be a bomber, as He will always be a Cat, after his two coaching premierships there.

That would be my take.
It seems there is a lot of hype around both Hird and Thompson as likely candidates despite them both appearing/stating they are uninterested in the short term and basicially unavailable.
Mark Williams is both interested and available, but that does not sell as many papers.
If I could somehow short sell this future on the market then I would

Bomber coaching Essendon is a pipe dream.

Bomber coaching Essendon is a pipe dream.
I agree, However there is something suspicious happening for the market to firm like that.
It wouldnt suprise me, if the board were trying to find out who the leaks were, and informing certain board members of different coaches to see who the leaks are.
Just say beverly Knight was told we are after Bomber thompson. All of a sudden there is a plunge and they know who the leak is.
But its interesting, and if he was available, He would get the job.

Odds dont just come in that far without reason.
Sure there would be some followers, but there has to be some form of information, whether it be right or wrong that is out there.

Wasn't Neale Daniher the favourite to get the job in 2007 and betting was closed because of it?

Wrong information circiling around again in 2007

Odds dont just come in that far without reason.
A good reason being the bookies look like taking a loss, ie a heavily backed favourite, and stir up a bit of interest by dropping odds a shitload on another candidate who they know is no chance.

Also chuck in:
* Bomber recently turned $400k into $10m on land in Geelong. I can't seem him needing a real financial motivation to continue and if he was desperate to continue surely he would have locked up the Geelong job for nearly as long as he wants it. He wants to retire from a well paying job that he has for as long as he wants it.
* Bomber has stated he is not a career coach and won't coach another club. He will simply retire as he is not motivated by being a career coach.
* Bomber has stated that he is more a Geelong person now. Essendon fans may laugh at this but it's probably not too different to Kevin Sheedy as a Richmond vs Essendon proposition. Essendon will never die but he is more a Geelong person now. So you could suggest the emotional ties aren't that strong to dump Geelong. Remember, you talking him dumping one for the other.
I don't know how people consider it even remotely possible due to his financial, career and emotional factors. None which favour a return to Windy Hill.

The thing with this type of market are,
its only been 2 days so they wont be holding that much cash, it wouldn't take a massive plunge to drop those odds, and there is a fair chance that some mug punters just took the value, then once he started to get turned in others jumped on because they think that something is up....
I wouldnt read much into at all imagine gary stays a cat and knocks back the cash and bomber just back flips and does the opposite.
Another one is matt trip the bloke who runs sportsbet, who does he follow? Maybe just trying to throw the cats off ahead of finals or he tries to get the punters to start questioning backing the cats

You're right, someone may have put $5 on Bomber to dilute the odds and then loaded up on the favourite who may have blown out.
I wonder if there has been a leak from Essendon regarding this.

Rumours that some Pakistani fellow called Majheed was seen lurking around Skilled Stadium turned out to be false, as this guy is still in Scotland Yard custody. :D

As for the property deal, Adrian Dodoro was in on that. You don't see him retiring.
I just hope that even if there was the remotest of chances, that the club explores it as much as is practicable. People were saying the similar arguments in 07; He won't leave a club that might make the GF, that we can't wait around that long to speak to him. Turns out he would have been happy to at least entertain the idea back then, but we blew it.
If Bomber was to confront the Geelong board, who are desperate to extend his contract beyond 2011, and discuss with them that he is leaving anyway, and that the best thing for Geelong to do is move on with the succession plan earlier, who knows what may happen?

If only he could've picked the young pups as well as his investments we wouldn't be in the situation we are now.

Sportsbet. I saw Richardson at $1.75 and Choco $3. That was about an hour after the sacking. Yesterday they pretty much swapped spots in the market.
