Essendon youngster Jobe Watson is likely to be sidelined for the next month due to osteitis pubis.
Bombers coach Kevin Sheedy confirmed on Monday that Watson would be ‘just about’ out for the next four weeks.
“He’s probably just had some wear and tear and just reeling from that under-18 comp and I think the AFL is concerned about that at the present time, so he won’t be coming into the side,” Sheedy said.
“He may have carried it into a game, but it probably wasn’t great for him on the night (of his AFL debut).” Watson – the son of club legend Tim - made his debut in round 13 against Geelong.
“We left him out of the side and played him in the seconds for a while and then it just hasn’t recovered.”
Meanwhile, Sheedy was a playing his cards close to his chest regarding the elbow injury to Essendon champion James Hird, but he hinted that the premiership captain was set to line-up against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night.
“I thought he was terrific last week,” Sheedy said about Hird’s chances of playing.
But when pressed about his elbow concern, Sheedy said with a smile: “I haven’t grabbed it lately. But I think it will be OK. He’ll be OK.”
