He is currently out of favour up in Perth and we are going to need to trade hard this upcoming trade week. I say lets give Fremantle Welsh and a late pick.
What does everyone else think?

Oh dear - what a terrible deal. We are robbing them blind, majority of Essendon supporters don't ever want to play Welsh again, whereas Palmer is a 3yr veteran who has won a rising star award. Yes he has flaws, but find me one Essendon supporter anywhere who wouldn't take it.
Having said that, I found another problem in your sentence
"we are going to need to trade hard this upcoming trade week."
I will be very very happy if we do not trade anyone in this year. Trade out the deadwood for draft picks, and rebuild that way. Trade for players in a few years time when we're looking to top up.
Btw, I imagine this thread will be moved very soon.
Besides that, I enjoyed your post :p Haha sorry if it was a bit scathing, just happened that I disagreed with most of it.

Perth is actually further North than Melbourne, and according to bonzle.com, Perth has an elevation of 31.5m above sea level, while Melbourne is only 25.6m above sea level.
Therefore, it is incorrect to say down in Perth, when speaking from the perspective of the Essendon Football Club.

Would cost too much- think pick8 range. Do we really want another bloke with kicking issues though?

Not worth pick 8 but you cracked the shits when we didn't use pick 6 on him.

At the time I was 100% right. Now fast forwar 3 years, Palmer is coming off a reco, he is not worth what Freo will ask.

would never give Welshy up, but Palmer would be a great pick up. Had a brilliant first season, then missed his second after a reco...should just keep getting better.

did a post go missing or am i missing the joke here but are you sure that being further north is directly related to elevation above sea level?
because i think that puts Mount Kosciuszko north of Cairns
FWIW i would have had no hope of spelling Kosciuszko without looking it up!
He's pointing out that Perth is neither below Melborune in the sense of how north it is, non below Melborune in the sense of how high above sea level is.

Welsh and a late pick??? Hey, why don't we just offer up Laycock in exchange for Palmer and their first pick?

but melbournes Latitude is 37° 50'S and perths Latitude is 31° 60'S
doesnt that mean its closer to the equator and further north???
anyway i should get back on topic, not sold on him at all, Daniel Pearce won a rising star too and hasnt really improved much since to my knowledge? you would want to be very careful not to over pay for someone who isnt a certainty going to live upto expectations, although knee may have put his progress back a couple of years!

Although you're 100% correct and I'm absolutely loving this banter, everyone is a genius in hindsight.
I still think Myers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Palmer............. all we need is time.

Would give up pick eight for a kid who proved as soon as he was drafted, that he could more than match it with the big boys. Would help out with the clearances and can push forward and kick a goal when required. Has been working on his opposite foot a lot apparently, which has been one of his weaknesses.

This post is fairly illogical... You could not really be 100% right at the time given that you do not draft a player for their performance in their first year. You draft them for their performance over a 10 year period (if you are that lucky to get a 200+ gamer). Thus, if he is not the player now that you predicted him to be, I don't see how you could have been right about him back then???

Palmer breaks his teammates' legs. Do we really want to trade for that sort of player?
I'd prefer we traded for Mundy if we went for any Freo mids.
I'd say lets try get someone in the PSD, if there's 3 good options for us WCE and Richmond.
Surely people would take a Palmer or Brennan for nothing, and keeping pick 8.

Still stand by what I said, I'm leaning towards not trading any picks.

What does everyone else think? What kind of person would trade a very promising young player with a rising star under his belt, for a mediocre at best late twenty year old and a late pick? :o
Would be talking pick 8 possibly.
Pick 8 + 3rd round
for
Palmer + 2nd round would be more like it

Rumours, (of course only rumours) palmer wants out
Stanton + ?
For
Rhys Palmer + 1st Round
Did Mark harvey work with stanton?
By the way thats a shit kick for a slightly less shit kick, but draft is deep enough that the first round could help us recreate our midfield with what i can only pray is brodie smith at pick 8 this year, jetta, watson, palmer

Great thread, especially the geography lesson. Its possible that Palmer could come across (would have avoided some of the confusion) to Essendon, but apparently he has an ego so would have to be given some latitude.

He's an extractor. We need another extractor to help Jobe out.
