I don't get it. Help me out here. Why do we care?
Cannot think of a less entertaining entertainer and do not get what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's because she appeals to the average Joe?

I don't think she appeals to any Joe. Maybe the occasional Julie.

Meh.

Carefactor is low.

But as they say, golf is a good walked spoiled and I couldn't gfa about Woods coming down either.

At least this one they may indeed get a genuine return on the taxpayers money.

I don't think the care factor is big here but it is one of the biggest shows in the world - the fact 40 million Americans watch it on its own is staggering.

The amount of people who will travel here 'because Oprah did' is enormous. All the books she 'recommends' sell out, anything she mentions......it sells. All that translates into is big money for tourism.

I thought Oprah retired or died or something. Anyway, she ceased to be interesting about 8 years ago. I really do hope they end up in Austria.

I think the Doug Anthony Allstars summed it up nicely back in the early 90's.

"Oh for a gun, oh for a gun, oh for a gun just to kill Oprah Winfrey!"

Even though I'm thousands of kilometers away, I'm so sick of reading and hearing about this irrelevant trash. It's just relentless, day after day of pointless updates. I find it ridiculous that the media was on hand at the airport to interview the plane load of nobodies who were flown down for this circus. And now that the ring leader herself has landed it seems everyone just has to know the size, smell, texture and time of her dumps.

She's loaded up to her eye balls yet Oz tax payers still had to foot the bill for her trip. Madness. What the hell is wrong with people down there?

Biggest con job ever, can't believe that we are being conned to expect a flood of US tourists, sure the numbers will increase, but its just too far to travel to see too little, plus with the dollar at parity it will be expensive for the cash poor Americans.

Bombers_Forever hit the nail on the head... whilst she does nothing for me or most other people here or for most guys... she is the most influential woman on the planet (up there with the Queen in that respect).

She is the richest, she's been around for ages, most of the US female population (irrespective of race/colour) have grown with her over the years. When she talks they listen and follow her recommendations.

Apparently it has cost Tourism Australia about $3 million to get her and the guests over here. Look at the impact that is having already... why pay for advertising when both the national and international press are going crazy for it (WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IT HERE for crying out loud). They're getting far better "bang for buck" than the WTBHAY? campaign.

Biggest con job ever, can't believe that we are being conned to expect a flood of US tourists, sure the numbers will increase, but its just too far to travel to see too little, plus with the dollar at parity it will be expensive for the cash poor Americans.

I agree somewhat that the current GFC recovery in the US and poor greenback will have an impact... but there will definitely be immediate increased tourists. More importantly though... the seed is planted!

We might not see the true benefits for 5 years. As her TV audience members talk about with friends, and people set Aust. as a future holiday destination to save for.

Stop being pricks, welcome people to our country, share a beer and story or 2 before saying goodbye. :thumbsu:

Meh, not a fan of her myself but you can't deny she's incredibly talented at what she does. Does a lot for charity and people who need help, and that's always something to be applauded in her book. I'm not overly happy with the amount of tax money we've spent to get her over here, but thats' a problem with our government, not her. Good on her I say, hope her and her audience have a great time.

Baffled by the attention, but just indifferent to Oprah herself.

What I can't stand though is Crowe pumping his Rabbitohs at any given moment. I get it but but **** it pisses me off

Yeah it seems like everytime Russell Crowe appears on US talk shows these days he has to shoehorn the Rabbitohs into the conversation or have people wearing their caps like Oprah did the other day.

Not sure why he bothers, it's not like Americans give a f*** about rugby league or know who the Rabbitohs are. It's mainly just an attention seeking stunt to stroke his own over inflated ego.
