Just wondering if anyone else watched this new show on Ten, which has had critical acclaim in the states. I thought it was quite good, with twists you don't see coming, a good script and cast and excellent cinematographer.
Other peoples thoughts.

It was mean't to be on in Vic this week, but tonight they're flogging a double episode of Law & Order:Criminal Intent [another great show]at 8.30pm thursday.

I looked up Ten's website and The Shield isn't mentioned anywhere.

Typical of any station in Australia. Get a good product from overseas that is slightly controversial, receive a few complaints and drop it.

I have no respect left for channel ten.

I reckon its more to do with ratings.Ch10 always change the shows at 9.30pm thursdays because they struggle to rate against The Footy Show.

I think it's time I wrote channel ten an abusive letter. They persist with crap like Big Brother, yet put new episodes of classic shows like The Simpsons and probably the only decent show from America, The Shield, they pull off the air. I want them off the air. Give these shows to networks that will show them.

I reckon The Shield is the best cop series on TV. It is a abslolute materpeice. The show is so intruging and thought provoking. I love how the characters have true depth and are not shown as either good guys or bad guy.

What do you guys think of The Sheild??? :)

The 2 movies they are running from 6.30pm are Billy Madison [ must be 5th time in 2 years  ] and Gladiator [yawnfest ].

Any idea if this is coming back? I heard last year that it was cancelled in the states so I went and had a look on IMDB.com and it said it was currently (at the time) being held off while Michael Chiklis filmed Fantastic Four 2, so I was wondering if anyone knew what was going on with it?

And will it re-appear on Ten? It stopped airing on Southern Cross Tasmania, and when I got a set-top box I was able to watch it again I am hoping it comes back because I'm a big fan of the show.

Crosby87
23 Nov 2006, 06:40
It hasn't been cancelled.

Season 6 will consist of ten episodes and was scheduled to begin filming in April 2006, for broadcast in March 2007. [3] Creator Shawn Ryan had stated this may be the last season [4], but on June 5, 2006 FX announced The Shield has been renewed for a seventh and final season.

Won't be back on Ten at all from what I've read.

Mr Sensitive
23 Nov 2006, 17:53
as crosby stated, it hasn't been cancelled... the creative process of the shield is similar to The Sopranos in that it's such a high quality show that it takes a long time for a season to be produced. Each episode is a mini-movie really... That said I hope the show doesn't go beyond these last two seasons that have been already ordered, because it isn't the sort of cop show that can go on indefinitely. It's so intense, that if it were to keep going it would run out of steam. Even so, season 5 was imo the show's finest hour.

Forget about seeing it on Ch 10. The Shield is much too smart and gripping to suit 10's target demographic of idiot teenagers. You can buy seasons 3 and 4 on Amazon for peanuts these days, and season 5 should be available as well by Christmas.

The Majestic
23 Nov 2006, 18:07
Ah thanks, I only heard someone who claimed to know it all about the cancelling of TV shows and he added it to the list. I don't suppose any other network has shown any interest in it?

I really enjoyed watching it, if that's a case it's off to Amazon.

By far the best TV show ever.

Just finished watching Season 5, and there hasn't been one bad episode in the whole series. Has everything you could ever want; Action, Drama, Comedy (in small doses), Romance, Brilliant acting and Compelling Storytelling.

One thing when watching I recommend on DVD only because on TV one episode isn't enough, you just want to sit down and watch a whole season at a time. I admit at first I didn't give it much of a chance after seeing random episodes every now and then, but about 2 years ago a friend bought me the first season as a birthday present and I was instantly hooked.

Nope. That honour goes to The Wire.

Great show, though, particularly seasons 5 and 6 (after the mediocrity of seasons 3 and 4). I'm very interested to see how they wrap it all up; the (up to the end of season 6 spoilers to follow...)"Mexican mob buying up commercial and residential property in LA" storyline has the potential to be awesome; I hope they don't stuff it up.

I thought season 4 was good, 3 was a bit on weaker side with less action, but still loved every minute of it. Also never got into The Wire just seemed like poor mans version of The Shield thought the acting wasn't as compelling but I think I'll go back and check it out when Im finished with season 6 as it took me awhile to warm up to Vic and the crew:thumbsu:.

Season 3 was definetly character driven and you had to have watched and understood the preceeding seasons to get it fully. I loved Season 4. Glenn Close was awesome and Antwon Mitchell was a truly great villain. Although Season 5 is probably the second best thing humanity's ever been responsible for. (Behind Battlestar Galactica)

In saying this, I think you are forgetting the following shows:

The Sopranos

I'm a big fan of Oz, but to be honest I don't think it holds a torch to the Shield. It's great, but it's last few seasons are so overblown that it becomes a caricature or a parody.

The Shield on the other hand, just gets better with age as the tension continues to build.

Oz doesn't belong in the same category as The Shield, The Sopranos or The Wire or Battlestar Galactica for that matter.

I always thought that The Wire was better than The Shield, but have decided the opposite.

i am currently halfway through Season 5, and it is awesome!

How good an actor is Forest Whitaker!

dude, wait till you see the season 5 finale... it's absolutely amazing

I was a bit disappointed by Season 6 it doesn't seem like a season in itself more like a build up to the final season 7.

S6 was just part two of S5.

I am ashamed that high quality shows such as the Shield, The Sopranos (an now it looks like lost aswel) can't find a real timeslot in this country while low-brow trash like gladiators and border security, and whatever cr@p channel 9 is currently serving up continues to rate. Good to see people here appreciate the quality that is the shield:thumbsu:

Seasons 1-4 are on sale for $20 at EzyDVD, and I assume will be cheap everywhere else shortly as well.

Useless to me. Australian DVD retailers need to get on with it and release Seasons 5 + 6 already.

Just finished watching season 6 in two days. Best show on TV. Season didn't run long enough though:thumbsd:. Going to be an agonising long wait to view season 7.
