View Full Version : Peter Siddle and Mitchell Johnson cannot play in the same team.
As the title suggests
Both are essentially the same bowler, only difference, one is right handed the other a left hander.
Both hit the deck hard and are erratic, both rely more on the pitch rather than movement in the air.
What do people think, watching the T20 at the moment, Siddle reminds me of a right handed Mitchell Johnson.

Mitch is more of an all rounder, whilst Sids will mainly be used for a bowler. I think They can play both as Johnson listed as an all rounder.

Bowling styles.. One is left handed, one is right handed, both rely on new ball swing then seemingly try and hit the deck hard and rely on the pitch.. Both erratic that have potential to be 300 + wicket takers at test level.

Well I was saying how we could fit them into the same team. Anyway, Johnson is better and takes bigger bags. BUT, we CAN have them in the same team.

Siddle tries hard but isnt very good. Johnson has talent and speed but is pretty stupid
"Siddle tries hard but is just unlucky"
efa............
Siddle will be fine once he realises that his stock ball is a bit too short. He shouldn't come straight back into the team, but he'll be back in soon enough.

Can't see how anybody can say johnson is an allrounder, he had a purple patch with the bat against south africa but outside of that he's been a test match number 9 at best.
Let's face it most of his big scores have come in losing causes where he's free to have a smash without worrying about the result.
I think hauritz has the potential to become a more consistent bat that johnson he seems to actually score his runs when the game is still up for grabs.

Siddle tries too hard to take a wicket every ball; either that, or he lacks control.
Needs to tighten up and bowl to a plan, otherwise, he's pretty mediocre.

Interesting to say they are both the same bowler when Siddle really bowls better when opening and Johnson should always be 1st change
I think they are different in that Siddle can be a bit more disciplined and be on line more often, Johnson is obviously very erratic most of the time
But you also cant judge Siddle on what he is bowling now, he has just come back from a long injury lay off and just getting started again

Johnson hasn't got the bottle to be an all-rounder. He always looks like he'd rather be anywhere else than on the pitch when the pressure is on.

Siddle would be a lot better if he were just 5 km faster.

If he can be, then it'd be nice for him to actually do it.

I agree in that I don't want both in the same team.
Siddle is pretty average to me.
Our first two picked bowlers should be Hilf and Bollinger.

Now Johnson is crapping on in an interview in cricinfo about how he is going to lead the attack, blah, de, blah and stand up to be counted, blah, de, blah.
How often are we going to hear this boring tripe from him? It is usually a signal for him to bowl like a complete old tart as he can't handle any expectations at all.

One swallow does not a summer make.
At this stage of time Bollinger has overtaken Siddle in the pecking order.
I would think Siddle is down the list of fast bowling place in the Australia line up..
1. Johnson
2. Bolinger
3. Hilfenhause
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?

they're both similar, but obviously mitchys handy with the bat.
but there isn't really anyone else to put in. we have soo many bowlers who are at about the same level. just need steve smith to step it up so we can have an actual legit spin bowling weapon back

I'd have it like this
1. Johnson
2. Hilfenhaus
3. Bollinger
4. Harris
5. Siddle
6. McKay
7. George
8. Hazlewood
9. Starck
In terms of what the selectors think.
Tait and Lee would rightfully not be considered but I have a bad feeling that they might slot in somewhere.

Although they have now shown that McKay has slipped to about 10th on the list with even James Pattinson getting a look in before him

But McKay will still be making a living in the IPL when he is 30 + :D
FWIW, he is one of the top 5 T20 bowlers in Australia!!

Not so sure about that, I still think his lack of pace will bring him undone too often, but very effective when it works, dont know what IPL teams would be willing to cough up especially on Indian pitches
Still in my mind a better first class/test bowler where he can just frustrate them out or build pressure for the other bowlers

McKay would have being a gun bowler if he were just 5 km faster.
Now ideally he would not be a first choice bowler.

Can't really judge where Siddle is at he has had a long time off with injury and needs to get the job done at domestic level. Harris if fit is surely 4th in line though.
There are a few bowlers thereabouts behind our main 3 or 4, it depends how they bowl at the start of the summer as to who is where in the pecking order.
