Games village in chaos, a pedestrian bridge near one of the half-complete main venues collapsing, a dengue fever outbreak and serious threats made against athletes and spectators.

Given that there's likely to be no games played in Pakistan due to security threats, have the ICC made a serious balls-up in fraudulently delivering the World Cup to the subcontinent ahead of Aus/NZ?

Of course they have, it was bullshit when they announced it, and it's even more laughable now.

Typical India though, blaming everybody else.

It's a different situation to the commonwealth games though. The cricket infrastructure is already in place in India and the players hotel jump venue to venue, so no need for athletes villages etc. Security is a concern but the cricketers are touring there anyway and they take the risk with the IPL also.

It was our turn to host it but :thumbsd:

India won't let a cricket tournament fail. Too much profit to be made. There'd be bugger all profit in the Commonwealth Games when compared to the CWC.

As a fan concerned for the health of the game , which would you pefer ? A WC in the subcont that brings an extra 400 million dollars to ICC development funds or one hosted on semi-empty grounds in Australia ?

Any world cup makes the ICC money, even if at the expense of the quality of torunament and in complete disregard for the local population (see the disgustingly run world cup of 07). TV Contracts are where the big bucks are at.

And Im pretty sure Australian cricketing attendances stack up well against those in India, especially in Melbourne Sydney and Adelaide. Hell we're never required to drag kids from the local schools in to boost our test cricket attendances.

It comes down to the fact that, by the time 2015 rolls around, it'll be 23 years since we last hosted the world cup, compared with this world cup being a mere 15 years since the sub-continent last held the tournament. Thats bullshit.

What is more pathetic is in that 23 years we will not have hosted anything at all, no major cricket tournaments, the subcontinent has hosted everything and alot of them more than once in that period

It would pull in big crowds, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart would fill their grounds for almost any match whilst at the right prices the Melbourne sports mad public would put in a good show for even Canada v Ireland :p

It's ridiculous that it takes 23 years for us to host something significant when South Frica had all 3 tournaments within 6 years and England within 10. By the time it gets to or turn sadly One Day Cricket will be long gone. :(

I really hoped for the day where I could go to the World Cup Final with 90,000 other spectators to see Australia vs RSA at the G.

Send it back to Australia, at least we won't rip the seats out and set fire to the MCG if we lose, it should be our **** ing turn anyway.

Why would the grounds be empty?

How were attendances at the last World Cup champ?

Pretty poor IIRC. Only because West Indies fans couldn't afford tickets.

And how is that anyway related to a World Cup which the Australian public get behind every time?

Crowd numbers have been substandard in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Aren't all these places hosting matches?

How's the crowd today?

Let the Indians keep the T20, let us worry about the real stuff.

About 50 people there. Absolute joke. Big series, Aus v India and they play it at shit grounds like this. These games should be at a ground at Eden Gardens where you'd get a half decent crowd.

But still, they supposedly live and breath cricket there and with 1 billion people you'd think they could get atleast 10,000 in a stadium.

The World Cup will be absolutely perfect. Disgraceful how they can get behind tournaments that are going to make them money but when there's one they can actually use to showcase the country and they actually have an obligation to the organization who trusted them with it they do bugger all.

Apparently except for the Indian games only a couple hundred tickets have been sold for each other world cup match so far.

Also Wankhede Stadium that will host the final is going to struggle to be ready on time.

More India bashing? The Australian media are a joke, all the shit that was said about the CWG, but yet the stadiums are world class and were ready on time, the security is top notch, better than most countries could have provided. The media have obviously something against India, they have done a pretty good job with the CWG, most of the events over the weekend were packed, even lawn bowls had a good crowd, the main stadium for the athletics was full on the weekend, Sunday they have 45 - 50k people there and on Saturday it was about 65% full as well.

Run down India all you want, but the facts are there for all to see, don't just read the crappy, bullshit written in the worlds greatest media in Australia.

I would say the Comm Games are a perfect reflection of what the World Cup will be, completely empty stadiums everywhere. As for the post above, I have yet to see 1 event with decent crowds at it, what have you been watching?

I wonder what our other Indian friend has to say about that after bashing Australias crowds?

Anybody remember the last ICC tournament shared between Sri Lanka and India? If the home nations weren't involved it was tumbleweeds blowing through the stadiums. The conditions, security and stadiums will be fine, but the crowds won't turn up unless India is involved.

It is a real shame as they are a very good crowd for the pantomime stuff. Very emotional.

Eden Gardens and Mumbai stadium that will host the final are still no way near completion.

Out of the 50 somethign matches 13 are sold out.
