I had to get up at about 1:30am to settle my son, and quickly flicked on the tele to see the replay of the 2000 Grand Final. 10 year anniversary of one of the most dominant side ever assembled. Anyway, needless to say, at 2:30, I am still sitting up, it's just about half time and I am enjoying every second of the game.

Michael Long, one of my favourite players ever, what a genius.

James Hird, watching him now, after missing him since he finished up, I think I appreciate him even more than I did when he was playing.

No wonder no one could stop them, the forward line at different stages consisted of Lloyd, Lucas, Hird, Caracella, Long and Mercuri. Awesome line up.

It's funny to note that Fletcher isn't all that young in the game, and it is 10 years ago! Haha.

Don't know why people say we would get smashed if we played today. We played modern day football back then. Absolutely amazing.

Don't know why people say we would get smashed if we played today.

You've got people who criticise every club in it's prime to it's current world. The truth is, the people who believe otherwise were actually old enough to remember and appreciate the effort/strength Essendon showed in 2000. Unrivaled by any season, ever.

We definitely would have given a lot of clubs today a shake, if not a scare. Especially this year's Collingwood side, would have ripped them to shreds. Pace and trends may change, but pure skill does not.

With that said, who cares? We won the bloody premiership, and that's all that matters.

Now it's time to build for another one, and go one better. Like only Essendon knows how to. :thumbsu:

The only reason they rip into us is because we only got the 1 flag. Yes we underachiever in 99 but in 2001 we were severely hit with injuries. Would have won with our full strength side.
