Have you looked at the TV guide recently? There are plenty of movies on, mostly due to the new digital channels.

I was of the some opinion... channels had ditched movies in favour of so many crappy TV series and reality shows. For many years Friday and Saturday nights were the only time to catch a movie on TV.

HD has bought in a bunch of changes though... especially with 72, GO and now Mate (73) and Gem(90). A good selection of movies to pick from during the week.

Also in the last few weeks Channel 9 has gone back to screening movies on Sunday night.

i suspect this is due to the rise of HD players etc.

everyone either has, or is thinking of, a home cinema in their house and have either seen the move 10 times or don't want to see it at all.

they're polarising things movies and the ratings suffer accordingly.

The Shawshank Redemption is on Channel 9 on Monday at 8:30pm.

I've seen it 100+ times, never get sick of it. One of the best movies ever.

Agree. And also please explain this phenomenon- a movie is on TV. I have the same movie on DVD. I watch the one on TV complete with ads.

Wtf.

Also, as for the late night movie, I miss these as well.

I'll never forget two late night movies I watched on TV. These being: "The Breakfast Club" and "Once were Warriors". Both unforgettable films, for very different reasons.

Also I may have never even seen them, had I not "stumbled" upon them late one night on TV.

Yeah this is a great movie. Have it on DVD as well.

Might just tune in tomorrow night. :D

I think the length of movies in recent years are also a turnoff. Prior to the mid 90s a standard movie was 90 minutes. Now it's more like 120, and plenty are longer.

When you chuck in ad breaks a movie that starts at 8:30 may not finish til after midnight. Not many people can be bothered with that kind of marathon - even if I want to see something I chuck on the HDD and watch it the following evening, sans commercials.

I have plenty of movies (as well as tv series) to pick from on dvd, no need to watch FTA or Foxtel.

However if FTA plays a movie that i have not watched in awhile.... i will whip out the dvd and watch it instead of putting up with the commercials. Sometimes i'll get an early start, finish it and watch something else.... BEFORE the FTA version is finished. Other times i'll start it around the same time as the FTA version starts, and again will finish it and move on before it ends on FTA.

Put it on your DVD when it is supposed to start on the Telly. That way you can watch it when you were planning to but with no ads. :)

100% When deciding what movie I will watch one of the first things I look for is duration. There are a lot of movies that are apparently awesome that I keep putting off watching because of their length.

I think it's similar to the 'radio' theory. Songs are much more enjoyable when you hear them on the radio than if you pop in a CD.

It's a social thing:)

Agreed.

Movies on TV are perfect to watch with mates.

I'm not a fan of watching movies interrupted by 3-5 minutes of ads every 15 minutes. It is very annoying.

Furthermore Seven, Nine and Ten tend to edit stuff out of their movies, either for time or classification reasons.

It is a bit of a social thing - movies just don't really rate anymore.

Think Ten were the first ones to change 8.30 sunday movies to Criminal Intent 5 years ago.

It worked in a ratings sense, so didn't take much longer for 7 & 9 to follow suit.

There should be movies on during the Comm games though - the networks are saving their bigger shows until after they finish.

The only TV I actually watch as it airs is... surprise surprise... football and other sport. Everything else is on iView, can be podcast, torrented etc. And most importantly, DVD. I hate watching a TV show week by week on TV. If I like it I'll buy it on DVD and watch it all at once! Unless I love it, and it airs in the US or UK... then I torrent it. And then buy the DVD when it comes out here.

I honestly don't know why people turn on their TV and expect good things on a regular basis. Just get into downloading!

!

Or if you really really like a show, skip the wait for it to come out in Australia and order it thru Amazon.

Did that with Nip/tuck, love the show, got soooooo SICK of waiting the bullshit time it takes to come out and order it straight away. I've already watched the final series.

+ with the great exchange rate atm you are way ahead. ;):thumbsu:
