Approximately 2 clicks from your current position, go in quick and silent, air support on the way.

Does he still have a job?

Who cares?
If he ever could have been considered a journalist in the past, I'd say he has now put an end to that consideration once and for all.
It's the nature of things. I honestly believe that the people at Essendon believed that the deal was over the line.
That's the funny thing about last ditch efforts, sometimes they work.

I think it was a done deal also. Maybe Bomber's conscience got him in the end. I wonder how Hird must be feeling now...

I think Hird has too much character and professionalism to let this set him back.
Thompson was a great coach, but he's not the Holy Grail, there are other great coaches out there with experience and skills that Hird can use to assemble a first-class team.

Caro did a massive backflip on this...pretty embarrassing for her. She's been adamant that Bomber was going to remain loyal, then at midday today completely turned that around. Turns out she was mostly right.

Well, usually when news is leaked in the footy world, it's officially confirmed. So this is a departure from the usual.

I agree.... I also think it was a done deal... either Bomber is genuinely exhausted and has changed his mind after a chat with the Cats officials today... or its just a ruse and Bomber will be alongside Hirdy shortly...

I really hope so. Everything else seems to be falling into place. Let's not forget:
I wont coach for now: Hird

JAMES Hird says he won't coach in the AFL for at least the next three years and doubts he might ever make the move.

I choose to read Cook's comments;
Geelong coach Mark Thompson weighs up future
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/bomber-thompson-set-to-quit-ast-geelong-coach/story-e6frf9jf-1225930803947
The issue is not whether he's going to Essendon, the issue is whether he's coaching at all.

as being that he has told them he doesn't want to go to Essendon. Back when we where looking for a coach. I'm seriously hoping in a week or two he tells Geelong he is simply over coaching. Then give it some more time, and he can sign on with us in a different role having been released by the cats amicably.

* Bomber had a commitment to EFC but backed out.
* Bomber has gone away to 'think about his future', either Cook has offered him more money to think about, or Cook needs time to organise Hinkley.
* This is the interesting bit; Cook said Bomber can take time off to think about his future, but needs a decision before Trade week. Even offered Bomber an extended break???
I think Bomber will still end up at EFC when he returns from stress leave. It's too much of a coincidence for this to happen within 24 hours. Just doesn't add up.
Interesting times, stay tuned.
This is not the first time or the last time that a deal has fallen through at the last minute.
Who knows - The deal may get over the line at a later stage.

It's true.... I was there with him. Oh and he told me he is sleeping with Caroline Wilson. Also that Terry Wallace will be in charge of the AFL's sunsmart policy and that purple elephants are in fact his parents....
What a tool...

I agree.
Caro seems to reckon he's on the way to Essendon after her latest article. But that's Caro. lol

Mike Sheahan calling it now too.
All three seem to be convinced that the whole presser was just for show for all the Geelong members, giving the perception that they are in control.
Personally, I think Thompson, after Cook has organised the new coaching panel with Hinkley/Sanderson, will e allowed to go.
I'm sure that the Cats were caught completely off guard. Did not believe that he would ever go, naive enough to believe that even Ablett could stay.

After hearing Ian Robson on SEN just now, the way he answered KB's question's on Bomber, I am 100% certain Bomber will be at EFC before christmas.

Big call, hopefully you're correct.
If we get Mark Thompson do you think the club are still going to look at Mark Williams/Dean Laidley as assistants?

Their reactions indicate that they would be more of a hindrance rather than really productive.
As it stands now, the panel is looking something like this:
Hird - Senior Coach
Thompson - Senior Assistant
Assistants
Goodwin, Wellman
Richardson is a question mark. Wallis looks as if he is fading.

So do I!
I don't think Choko did himself any favours when he said on the weekend that EFC should not appoint a rookie coach. There may be a position there for Laidley.

I didn't hear the interview- but I can imagine that he would have to say that to talk up his own chances of getting the top gig- wouldn't he?

Agreed.

No need if Bomber jumps aboard.
I would absolutely love it if we landed Laidley as a senior assistant or director of coaching along with Bomber.
Was Patrick Smith on SEN this morning with KB? If so was he asked about his "article" by either KB or callers?

Every question (about three) was a high gain question. Robson did not answer the question directly.
Keep an eye out for the full interview, should be up soon.

Yes, still sticking to his guns. He said everyone at EFC knew there was a commitment from Bomber on Friday. GFC crap themselves after the news broke, called in Bomber for an emergency meeting.
Patrick found it quite funny how Cook has given Bomber extended time off to recover, yet he needs a decision in three days on his future at the club.
There was no real pushback from KB or callers, the perception is that it will still happen. It just did happen yesterday.

It was one of the weirdest days in footy I can remember, lets hope we can get him back home at EFC where he belongs.
